2. 25 years ago, when I was 17 years old,
a close friend spoke these words to me,
“…you don’t even know that you are a remedy…
a solution… you are medicine
for some ill God wants to heal in this world!”

3. It took me eight years to understand what she meant.
Finally, at age 25, I was baptized. Immediately, I began
my pursuit of the “life as a remedy” she spoke of.
The life God designed for me.

5. Rev. William Derek Lee was born and raised in
Brooklyn, New York. He attended New York City public
schools through high school, earned his Bachelor's Degree
from St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, and Master of
Divinity degree from Drew Theological Seminary in
Madison, New Jersey.
In October 1998, he was licensed to preach by Rev.
Anthony Trufant at Emmanuel Baptist Church (Brooklyn,
New York) and hired as Emmanuel’s pastor for youth. He
served in that capacity for two years before he was
promoted to Executive Pastor. Rev. Lee was a vital part of
the growth Emmanuel experienced under Pastor Trufant.
Average worship attendance rose from 400 to over 1400
per Sunday and Emmanuel eventually added 2 new
services including a casual Saturday evening worship. He
was ordained in the Baptist denomination in the spring of 2002. In the summer of the same year, he left
Emmanuel to serve as Executive Pastor of Macedonia Church in Pittsburgh, Pa.
While at Macedonia, Rev. Lee was instrumental in developing an administrative and facilities management staff,
which greatly improved the efficiency of church operations. He instituted programs that significantly increased
attendance, particularly on special emphasis Sundays and holidays. He also led a successful stewardship
campaign, collecting over $100,000 above normal giving during the traditionally low giving summer months.
In the summer of 2004, he returned to New York and Emmanuel Baptist to serve as assistant pastor. In April of
2006, Rev. Lee spearheaded the launch of Ai the Ministry in Jersey City, New Jersey. Identified as a church
plant by Emmanuel Baptist, Rev. Lee worked to build a dynamic ministry that helped to reveal God's
transforming power as experienced through second chances. Until August of 2012 he served under Rev., Dr.
Vernon Walton (Senior Pastor at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Englewood, New Jersey) as Pastor for Young
Adult Discipleship.
Reverend Lee resides in New Jersey with his wife, Michelle, and their five children. He is an avid movie and
basketball fan. As a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., he looks to serve the community both
through and outside the church.
