The firsttrailerI watchedto getinspirationfor
my ownhorror trailerwasInsidious,one of my
favourite horrorfilms.One of the first thingsI
noticedwasthe title cards,I specificallyreally
likedthe ‘fromthe makersof paranormal activity
and saw’title card andI woulddefinitelyliketo
incorporate thatintomy ownwork.
I thennoticedthe setting,averynormal
suburbanhouse. Idefinitelywanttoinclude a
similarsettingformytrailerasI thinkit
definitelymakesthe trailercreepieraseerie as
itsset insuch a normal environmentandcould
happentoanyone.I lovedthe waythe showed
the house bya panningshotandI would
definitelywanttoinclude asimilarshot.
The trailerthenintroducedthe audience tothe
maincharacters,a verynormal couple/family.
Thisagain makesthe filmcreepybyhavingsuch
a normal familyasthe main characters;it makes
the audience feel more vulnerable,due tothe
normalityof it.Thisisdefinitelyanother
elementIwanttoinclude intomyowntraileras
I thinkitdefinitelyhelpsmake the filmasscary
as possible.
The beginningof the traileriseditedtogether
quite slowly,thentowardsthe endgetsfaster
and fasterwithshotscut togethrfaster.Thisisa
technique usedtobuildsuspense,andis
anotherelementIdefinitely wanttoinclude in
my ownwork.The way it worksdefinitelybuilds
suspense andinticesthe audience towatchthe
filmtofill inthe blanks,andalsoto keepthe
audience onthe edge of theirseatsbyshowing
howscary thishoror filmwill be.

The secondtrailerI watchedtoget insparationwasthe
trailerforThe Conjuring,anotherone of my personal
favourite horrorfilms.Thistrailerincludedtitle cards
too,howeverwithabitof difference.The firsttitle card
we see forthistrailersays‘Basedon the true storyof
the Warrens’thiswill make the audience evenmore
scareddue to the fact the eventsmayhave actually
happened.Againthisisanothertechnique usedtomake
the audience feel vunerable,because itsactually
happeneditcouldhappentothem.ItsdefinitelysomethingIwanttoinclude inmytrailer.
The settingforthishorror filmisagainbasedina normal
home justlike insidious,Idefinitelythinkthishelpsmake
the trailerevenscarier.Howeverthe shotsusedof the
house are much darkerand eerierstraightfromthe
beginning.Idolike the effectithas;the low keylighting
makesthe whole frame scarier.
Thisfilmfollowsthe same codesandconventionsasthe
filmInsidiousandusesthe same theme forthe
characters,a normal regularfamily.Thisdefinitely
makesthe filmmore realisticandhitshome more for
the audience.AgainIdefinitelywanttoinclude thisin
my owntrailer.
Thisfilmtrailerisdefinitelydifferentdue tothe wayit is
edited.Usually the trailergetsfasterandfastertowards
the end,howeverwiththistraileritsmore slow towards
the veryendthensuddenlyfast.Ireallylike the effectit
had,it makesyoufeel like more relaxingandthen
shocksyou bythe suddenquickediting.Idefinitelywant
to include thisintomyownwork.
