2. 1. How old are you?
The majority of respondents were between the
age range of 17-18 years old.
3. 2. Are you Male or Female?
In total we only received 10 respondents from
our questionnaire. However, 6 were male and
the other 4 were female.
4. 3. What is your favourite genre of
music?
The majority of our respondents said that they
didn’t have a particular genre of music that
would be classed as their favourite, as they
enjoyed many different genres of music.
However, a few respondents did state their
favourite genre, which was Alternative.
5. 4. Who are your three favourite artists
(musical)?
This question received many different artists,
however a common trend was that many of the
artists were fairly new. For example, Mumford &
Sons. The different choices also spread across
various genres, for example; Rock, Alternative,
Ska and Indie.
6. 5. Which artist’s influence you?
Unlike our previous question about favourite
artists, this question about which artists
influence the respondents, was answered with
the majority of answers including iconic artists
such as David Bowie and The Cure.
7. 6. Do you watch music videos?
All the respondents said that they did watch
music videos, with side comments stating that
many of them watched them on YouTube whilst
a few also watched them on the TV.
8. 7. How often do you watch music
videos?
The answers to this question varied, with some
respondents stating that they watched music
videos regularly, whilst others said that they only
watch them when they saw that new releases
were advertised. Some however, said that they
watched music videos when they came across
them, for example on the television.
9. 8. Do music videos increase your
enjoyment of the song?
The clear response from this question was ‘Yes’,
however, it was also noted that some individuals
enjoy the song more than the music video.
10. 9. Do music videos influence your song
choice?
Respondents said that a music video had no
influence over their choice of song.
11. 10. What makes a music video
appealing to you?
The key word that came from the answers we
received was that viewers would rather have a
video that was interesting and made them want
to continue watching, even if they didn’t
particularly like the song track.
12. 11. Do you feel that a music video has
to have a narrative?
Most respondents came back to us with answers
saying ‘No it’s not always important.’ However,
others said that it is interesting to sometimes
follow the story of the song and even feel like a
part of it.
13. 12. Do you like being able to spot
references in a music video to other
films/videos/people?
All respondents said that this makes the video
more interesting to them, however they said it
wasn’t always key to a music video. A few
mentioned Lady Gaga’s - ‘Telephone’ as an
example.
14. 13. Name a music video that stands
out for you and why.
All of the respondents named different videos
that stood out to them, however most of the
videos mentioned were performance based.
15. 14. A music video from the ‘Indie’
genre that stands out for you and why?
Examples of videos that that were stated:
Mumford & Sons – “The Cave”, The Kooks –
“She Moves In Her Own Way” and the Editors –
“An End Has A Start”. Again all the examples
given were from fairly modern bands.
16. 15. Does Stop Motion Appeal To You?
Respondents who knew what Stop Motion was
were enthusiastic about it. However, a few
respondents were unsure what Stop Motion was,
therefore we had to explain. After explaining,
most found it appealing whilst others were still
unsure.
17. 16. Would You Like To See Stop Motion
Within A Music Video?
Most said that they would like to see stop motion
within a music video, whilst others were unsure
(these were mainly the respondents who didn’t
understand first off what stop motion was).
