Media technology evaluation
1. How I used media technologies
in the construction and
research, planning and
evaluation stages
2. • I used a variety of different media platforms and technologies to
present my diversity and flexibility at the time of creating my media
production. This was also done when I was carrying out research and
planning.
3. • Final cut pro was a vital technology format used when creating my media production,
all editing used for our short film was carried out on here, editing including music,
sound effects, shot tints, shot length etc. was easily accessible on this programme.
Final cut pro is ideal for younger age groups and beginners due to its simple designer
and easily accessible components. Although, final cut pro is only available on apple
computers and laptops, so anyone without one cannot access it, thus, making it harder
and longer for me to carry out editing that I would want to do at home.
4. • I used these two documentation tools to effectively note my
adaptation of the main task. With excel I used this when noting the
results for my questionnaire for research and planning to get
appropriate statistics to review who enjoyed a certain genre more.
• Word was a useful everyday tool to draft ideas and concepts I had on
my main task and how to carry out shots and shot lengths before
writing it down on a shot list. I also used word with tables to
communicate problems that I may have when filming, costumes and
equipment needed, and ideal locations to film in.
5. • We used this camera from my dad as it was of a decent quality and a slight
improvement from the ones provided by our school. We understood that from
our questionnaire to target audiences that quality is of high importance so we
wanted the best quality possible. All of our main production shots were filmed on
this camera as it was easy to use and figure out how to use it. It was not made for
filming but taking pictures, although it did do the job very well.

6. • Google was used in all construction, research, planning and evaluation stages as I always needed
to revert back to how psychological thrillers were portrayed. I google searched other films that
follow these themes to follow similar conventions and to create a stronger understanding of these
films. For planning I had to google different factors that could effect the performance of our short
film, this included factors such as the weather. I had to google the weather to find out if it would
be raining, sunny, windy or foggy on the days of our filming so that we could prepare well for it.
Also in the planning process google was used for
location spotting to find tunnels and parks that
could be used to create a scary and thrilling feel to
them. Google maps was very helpful for this as it
informed us where the closest places are to us and
how far we would have to travel to reach them.
7. • Used to present and log what I used when constructing, planning and researching my main task. It is a
website that allows users to create their own website for free with costly other options. It is perfectly laid
out in an easily understandable term and format so that students such as myself can use it quickly and easily.
It is not made for advanced website creators, but rookies who want to post things for others to access. I put
everything I did on the website for people to see and to see the progress I made when constructing my main
task.
8. • A very useful media platform to carry out research on previous short films
following similar genres to us. I spent a lot of time looking at short films so that I
could withdraw some conventions that would fit into our own production. There
are a vast amount of conventions and ideas of psychological thrillers on YouTube
as it is such a big platform holding 819,417,600 hours of video there is more then
enough evidence to use for my own. It was also a good platform to post our final
production on so that anyone could watch it and give feedback etc.
