Heal and Cure is a physician supervised medical wellness & primary care center. We offer Insurance Covered medical services for wellness and healthy living, weight loss or weight management, and primary care – all under the supervision of Board Certified, Award Winning physicians.
Since 2003, Heal n Cure has been mirroring the recommendations of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force* (USPSTF) for the screening and management of obesity and diabetes. Over the years, we have aligned our weight management program – “Inspire Core Wellness”, based off the Task Force’s findings. The program has delivered impressive results in reversing all modifiable health risk factors.
The USPSTF recommends that overweight and obese patients should be referred to a comprehensive, multicomponent weight loss program with 12 to 26 sessions in the first year. The Inspire Core Wellness program implements the USPSTF recommendations and has delivered impressive outcomes.

9. Heal n Cure selected to present at the upcoming
"Overcoming Obesity" conference, September 10-13, Austin, TX
Abstract:
Corporations in the US are deploying 'Corporate Wellness Programs' to reduce
their healthcare expenses. However, those programs have failed to deliver the
ROI, because they do not address the medical needs of employees who are high
health care utilizers.
10. Heal n Cure selected to present at the upcoming
"Overcoming Obesity" conference, September 10-13, Austin, TX
Abstract Continued:
Studies have shown that these high health care utilizers lead to 70% of the health
care expenses, resulting from Urgent Care visits, ER visits, subspecialist visits,
imaging diagnostics, and invasive interventions. Obesity, Type 2 diabetes,
Ischemic Heart Disease, Chronic Kidney Disease, Sleep Apnea and associated
co-morbidities are highly prevalent in this population. Also, they are at risk for high
cost conditions like Stroke, Heart Attack and many different kinds of Cancers
(endometrial, breast, colon), leading to high health care utilization.
We present a solution that can help save healthcare costs by enhancing
existing corporate wellness programs to identify and serve high health care
utilizers. Further, we discuss the specific clinical outcomes achieved by a
Bariatrician led care team which provides comprehensive, evidence-based,
personalized care for high health care utilizers.

58. Medical Costs and Savings
Potential Savings
The program reduces urgent care and ER visits, and the need for costly,
invasive interventions.
Annual direct cost per medical condition for high needs employees:
59. Medical Costs and Savings
According to another independent study3 by the National Institute for
Health Care Management Foundation, the average annual healthcare
expenses for the high-needs employees was $26,767 in 2009.
60. Cost Avoidance and Results
An analysis of medical and claims data for 103 clinically obese high-risk patients referred to
our program proved that their obesity, diabetes, and heart disease conditions were
reversed. This correlates to potential savings of $1,477,175 per year. These high-risk
patients were enrolled in our personalized Medical Wellness Program for an average of
21.7 weeks in 2011-2012. High quality care is less costly.
61. Heal n Cure’s Recommendations for Employers
• Effectively communicate what is offered at the workplace, what employees are doing in
company programs and share clinical data from biometric screenings. This allows our
physician to highlight and support employer efforts during visits with the employee.
• Focus chronic disease management programs on lifestyle change and health
improvement activities; not on the chronic condition itself.
• Offer an incentive tied to obtaining an annual physical. Consider additional incentives
for developing individualized goals based on the results of the physical. Employees will
see it as an opportunity to work with their physician and the results can lead to healthy
behavior changes.
62. Key Research Findings
• A significant event that involves a family member or loved one can serve as a major
trigger to encourage healthy behavior change
• Employees need the confidence to take action and the conviction, along with tools,
resources and support, to get started and keep going
• Employees prefer activities that are personalized, targeted to their specific needs and
support work/life balance.
• Employees believe the most credible source for health information is their doctor.
• Physicians believe it takes an entire spectrum of support – the patient’s health care
team, including the physician, family, friends, employer, health plan and health coach –
to help employees improve and manage their health. It also takes effective
communications and solutions that involve the entire family.

It’s really a matter of targeting the root cause as to why someone is unable to lose weight, such as medication, a sluggish liver, thyroid issues, insulin resistance, etc. Once this cause is recognized, it is then that the appropriate and personalized plan for them, in order to lose the weight can be established, including coordinated nutrition for repair at the cellular level.
There are a host of causes of weight gain, and the inability to get the weight off.
Medications: diabetes, antidepressants
These causes present themselves as debilitating symptoms, that are too often than not, treated with medication as the first line of therapy.
prevention is the best option
When taking the preventive outlook to addressing weight problems, strategies need to be individualized and personalized. A person needs to be looked at as a whole. Their past, present, chemical makeup and body composition all need to be taken into consideration.
What medications are they taking? Are their kidney and liver functioning normally? Are they able to process fat effectively? Do they have normal thyroid function?
With all of these factors and more needing to be taken into consideration, it’s obvious that what works for one person will not necessarily work for the next.
Which helps make sense of popular programs, that yield short-term success, for only a fraction of the population.
Take these women for example, the young woman on the left may have a nutrient deficiency, another may be experiencing hormonal imbalances, yet another may be experiencing sleep disturbances, which do not allow her to experience the restorative phases of sleep.
The focus of weight loss success or failure needs to be redirected from the scale, to body composition.
The goal of lifestyle change should be fat loss not weight loss.
The number on the scale does not reflect body composition (fat & fat free mass the body contains).
Body composition can be measured several different ways, with the gold standard being under-water weighing, which is not functional for everyday life. Another is BIA, or bio-impedance analysis, where an electrical current is sent through the body measuring the difference in fat and fat free mass. (hands/feet, hands, feet)
It is possible that the number on the scale will stay the same or increase, if you lose fat and increase muscle. (upper lower)
It is possible for the scale to go down, but to lose no fat pounds and only muscle.
If that is the case, you will probably feel the same and you are in worse shape than when you began addressing your weight problems.
If the scale is your gauge of success or failure, you may seriously do yourself a disservice.
BMI (Body Mass index): a biological marker of health used in most health settings does not take into account body composition.
As seen two individuals of completely different health status can be measured at the same BMI.
5 pounds of muscle is more dense and compact than 5 pounds.
Without knowing an individual’s body composition, one could be told they are at a “healthy” or “unhealthy” weight and be greatly mislead.
Now I’d like to talk a little about the foods that have helped facilitate America’s obesity epidemic
Achieve a healthy body composition by knowing:
The total percentages of fat and muscle throughout the body.
How your body composition compares to healthy ranges.
How many calories you burn.
We closely monitor your bodies fat mass and focus on reducing the fat mass while maintaining the muscle mass. This is a very different approach from calorie counting where people starve themselves to loose weight. The bodies metabolism decreases, they loose muscle, the result is a lack of energy and poorer body composition. As a result, these approaches fail and people develop cravings, hunger pangs, and they give up and start binging on goodies. Ultimately, after a month or so, people using popular calorie counting plans or guides end up with poorer body composition. In contrast, as shown in this graph, we strive to loose body fat mass while maintaining lean body mass. For example from the above graph, this patient has loss overall 84.5 lbs. out of which 74 lbs. was pure fat.
Loss in Body Weight = 324.5 – 235.7 = 88.8 lbs
(191.1 - 183.4) + (133.4 - 52.2) = 88.8 Total weight loss
7.7 lbs Muscle Loss ( It is acceptable for patients to lose 1lb of muscle for every 2 lbs of fat they loose)
81.2 lbs Fat Loss
