The Daimyo were the samurai lords who ruled over fiefs in Japan during the Tokugawa Shogunate from 1616 to 1867. The Daimyo were divided into two groups based on whether they had been allied with or opposed Ieyasu Tokugawa before the Battle of Sekigahara in 1603, with those allied with him forming the first group and opponents or neutrals the second.
