Vestmannaeyjar is an island off the coast of Iceland with around 4,000 inhabitants known for its volcanic activity. In 1973, the island experienced its last eruption which created a 200m high mountain from lava. The hiking trail to the top offers amazing views of the unique landscape, with some areas of the new mountain still warm from underground heat. The document also mentions a remote island called Elliðaey near Vestmannaeyjar where singer Björk was gifted an enchanting house by Iceland as thanks for her international success promoting the country.
