Cloud Computing – Trend Overview
3
Drivers
 Clouds offer cost savings & an attractive pay-as-you-go
model
 Clouds can enable the speed of delivery of new services &
capabilities, enabling rapidly innovation
 Hybrid cloud models allow organizations to move part of
their data into the public cloud, while keeping other IT-
resources on-site or in a private cloud
Challenges
 Security risks of public clouds continue to be a concern.
 Many enterprises don’t want their data stored by a third party
or where other users potentially have access to their data
 Many enterprises don’t have cloud skills in house
Implications
 Large enterprises will increasingly design for hybrid clouds
 The demand for anytime, on-the-go accessibility will be a
major force in shaping cloud computing
 Expect continued development of delivery models (Iaas,
PaaS, and Saas) as enterprises seek to build and deploy
cloud applications
 Startups, companies with complex supply chain operations
and companies going through reorganizations or business
process transformations are good candidates for clouds
Selected Cloud Facts:
 “Through 2020, 95 percent of cloud
security failures will be the customer's
fault” Gartner
 “By 2018, at least half of IT spending
will be cloud based, reaching 60% of all
IT infrastructure and 60-70% of all
software, services, and technology
spending by 2020” IDC
 “The major drivers responsible for the
growth of the cloud access security
brokers market are controlled data loss,
real-time monitoring capabilities,
increased regulatory enactment, and
increased adoption of cloud-based
applications.” MarketsandMarkets
 “By 2018, over 50% of enterprises will
create and/or partner with industry
cloud platforms to distribute their own
innovations, source others'” IDC
 “The market for public cloud services is
continuing to demonstrate high rates of
growth across all markets and Gartner
expects this to continue through 2017”

Summary of cloud computing trends to watch in 2016
1. Growing Hybrid Cloud Adoption. Hybrid cloud - and hybrid IT -
is the end game for the majority of enterprises. Integration and
management are complicated driving enterprises to seek help.
2. Cloud brokerage. Both enterprises with more mature cloud
environments and new cloud adopters will realize the benefits of
brokerage platforms, tools and services.
3. Cloud development platforms mature. Enterprises seek
vendors offering simplified development options, more
monetization options and a large ecosystem Expect cloud
development and test platform markets to consolidate with Cloud
Foundry the leading open-source option.
4. Enterprises seek vertically tailored cloud solutions. Along
with a customized solution, vertical aligned sales and consulting
teams will be desired, bringing strategy consultancies to the
forefront of enterprise purchasing decisions.
5. Containers are a must-have. Enterprises demand containers.
For both IaaS and PaaS vendors, development and integration
services around containers are in demand.
6. Increased demand for IoT platforms drives cloud solutions.
The proliferation of cloud-based Internet of Things (IoT) and
analytics solutions in the marketplace continues to drive cloud
demand, as cloud allows for secure storage of massive amounts
of structured and unstructured data central to IoT core function.
4
“More than 80% of enterprise
IT organizations will commit to
hybrid cloud architectures by
2017, vastly driving the rate
and pace of change in IT
organizations.” IDC

Spending on cloud computing continues to grow across all markets
5 HorizonWatch 2016 Trend Report: Cloud Computing (External Version)22Feb2016 Prepared by TBR, Inc.
“IDC expects that spending on cloud IT
infrastructure will grow across all regions
and all technologies. In most regions,
growth in public cloud IT infrastructure
spending will exceed growth in spending
on private cloud IT infrastructure as public
cloud service providers will continue to
invest in expansion of their datacenters
and service offerings.”- IDC
“Public IaaS/PaaS services had the
highest growth rate at 51%, followed by
private & hybrid cloud infrastructure
services at 45%, but all of the segments
grew by at least 16%.”- Synergy Research
“The market for public cloud services
is continuing to demonstrate high
rates of growth across all markets
and Gartner expects this to continue
through 2017.” Gartner quote found in

IBM: Cloud Security Overview
“To support their firms' cloud strategy without compromising
security or compliance, security and risk (S&R) pros need to
develop a number of important capabilities. They need the
capability to: 1) discover sanctioned and unsanctioned cloud
app adoption; 2) prevent the unauthorized transfer of
sensitive data to the cloud; 3) protect and encrypt sensitive
data in the cloud; and 4) identify suspicious employee
behaviors and threats in cloud services” – Forrester

Besides security, there are other concerns that continue to inhibit the
adoption of cloud computing solutions and services
 Skills gaps remain. Integrating multicloud
and hybrid IT environments can be a complex
project, especially for small and medium
businesses. Many firms desire in-house skills
before investing in cloud solutions
 Data location and privacy are growing
concerns. Where the data resides is
important for many firms, especially when
considering regulatory and compliance
solutions.
 Enterprises need better metering and
usage tracking capabilities. Improved
capability can help firms optimize existing
cloud usage and provide them visibility into the
real cost and ROI
 IT and LOB ownership issues. For some
firms, IT and LOB cloud purchasing and
ownership conflicts can slow down project
timelines.

Summary of cloud computing trends to watch in 2016 1. Growing Hybrid Cloud Adoption. Hybrid cloud - and hybrid IT - is the end game for the majority of enterprises. Integration and management are complicated driving enterprises to seek help. 2. Cloud brokerage. Both enterprises with more mature cloud environments and new cloud adopters will realize the benefits of brokerage platforms, tools and services. 3. Cloud development platforms mature. Enterprises seek vendors offering simplified development options, more monetization options and a large ecosystem Expect cloud development and test platform markets to consolidate with Cloud Foundry the leading open-source option. 4. Enterprises seek vertically tailored cloud solutions. Along with a customized solution, vertical aligned sales and consulting teams will be desired, bringing strategy consultancies to the forefront of enterprise purchasing decisions. 5. Containers are a must-have. Enterprises demand containers. For both IaaS and PaaS vendors, development and integration services around containers are in demand. 6. Increased demand for IoT platforms drives cloud solutions. The proliferation of cloud-based Internet of Things (IoT) and analytics solutions in the marketplace continues to drive cloud demand, as cloud allows for secure storage of massive amounts of structured and unstructured data central to IoT core function. 4 “More than 80% of enterprise IT organizations will commit to hybrid cloud architectures by 2017, vastly driving the rate and pace of change in IT organizations.” IDC FutureScape: Worldwide Cloud 2016 Predictions HorizonWatch 2016 Trend Report: Cloud Computing (External Version)22Feb2016 “By 2020, over 50% of all new applications developed on PaaS will be IoT-centric, disrupting conventional architecture practices.” Gartner Predicts 2016: PaaS Innovation Continues Unabated
