Huawei NE Series Routers Overview
Cluster Router
NE5000E
Huawei NetEngine5000E cluster router (NE5000E) delivers industry-leading huge
capacity, carrier-level availability and green design,which fully guarantees the network
robustness, service flexibility and TCO saving for service providers. Powered advanced
backplane connection design, distributed and highly scalable Versatile Routing Platform
(VRP) operating system, NE5000E, a super-core routing platform, service steadily and
high-efficiency at internet backbone, metro core, internet data center and Internet bearer
network.
Offering the innovative and advanced solutions such as the industry-largest capacity
board, back-to-back cluster system and hybrid-chassis cluster system, the NE5000E
makes network configured on demand and helps customer improve earnings, as well as
save TCO.
The Huawei NE5000E has two parts in hardware: Cluster Central Chassis (CCC) and
Cluster Line Chassis (CLC). CLC is used to forward service flow and CCC is used to
connect CLC’s control plane and data plane in cluster system.
Universal Service Router

The NetEngine40E series universal service router (NE40E) is a high-end network product
provided by Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. NE40Es are usually deployed at the edges of
Enterprise networks, Campus Aggregation Network, IDC network and Interconnection
networks between Enterprise Campuses. The NE20E, NE40E, and NE5000E together
provide a complete, layered IP network solution.
The Huawei NE40E can be flexibly deployed at the edge or core of IP or MPLS networks,
simplifying network structure. With its ability to provide an extensive range of services
and reliable service quality, the NE40E is driving IP and MPLS bearer networks to
develop greater broadband capacity and to become more secure, more intelligent, and
more service oriented. Based on distributed hardware forwarding and non-blocking
switching technologies of the CLOS distributed switching architecture, the NE40E
features line-rate forwarding capability, a well designed Quality of Service (QoS)
mechanism, strong service-processing capability, and excellent expansibility. The
distributed QoS engine provides a packet buffer capability of 200 ms, which can solve the
packet loss problem caused by burst traffic on the WAN network. The NE40E is based on
a 400G platform and provides 100G line cards to satisfy the increased demand for
bandwidth. NE40E has the ability to support virtualization; multiple devices can be
virtualized into a single device. Compatible with all line cards currently in use, the NE40E
minimizes investment needs.
The NE40E series, including Huawei NE40E-X16, Huawei NE40E-X8 and Huawei
NE40E-X3, are suitable for networks of different scales.

MSCG (Multi-Service Control Gateways)
Huawei ME60 series Multiservice Control Gateway is perfect as service point of presence
(SPOP) of IP/MPLS network, BRAS node of broadband service access, or core node of
campus networks, by delivering industry-leading performance, monetization capabilities
and excellent service evolution to boost customers’ service development.
As a service management and offering platform with high performance, the ME60 meets
various requirements for service operation mechanisms. ME60 ensures smooth and
reliable running of various services. Based on the solutions with ME60, customers are
able to construct a future-oriented and intelligent broadband IP network, which can
greatly reduces the TCO of the network.

Unified Service Router
NetEngine20E-S series unified service router (NE20E-S) is a high-end network product

provided by Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. Huawei NE20E-S is usually deployed at
aggregation layers of Internet Protocol (IP) backbone networks, core networks of small-
and-medium enterprises, edges of industrial park networks, and access layers of small-
and-medium education networks, etc. Based on NP hardware forwarding and non-
blocking switching technologies, adopting Huawei’s self-developed VRP (Versatile
Routing Platform), NE20E-S features carrier-level reliability, line-rate forwarding
capability, well-designed Quality of Service (QoS) mechanism, strong service-processing
capability, and excellent expansibility. Based on the latest VRP platform, NE20E-S
supports greatest access capability for aggregation layer with abundant features, such as
L2VPN, L3VPN, multicast, multicast-VPN, MPLS-TE, QoS. These features bring services
of bearer networks with carrier-level reliability. In addition, with full support of IPv6,
NE20E-S provides smooth transition from IPv4 to IPv6. NE20E-S can be flexibly
deployed at the access and aggregation layer of IP/MPLS networks, in order to simplify
network infrastructure, and also provide reach service types and reliable service quality. It
is the important force to drive IP/MPLS network to broadband, security, business-oriented
and intelligence. NE20E-S series router includes NE20E-S4, NE20E-S8, and NE20E-
S16, which can be used in various scale of networks.
