I4MS 2015: Enhancing digital transformation in manufacturing SMEs
I4MS 2015 will explore the progress achieved by the I4MS initiative and the impact participation has had on SMEs.
To date I4MS has achieved over 80% industrial participation. An initial participation of 80 SMEs has now grown to 150 as momentum continues to build. Success is also evident with SME participation in projects leading to the adaption of new technologies and approaches. I4MS phase two will take this success further through additional projects supported by a budget of approximately EUR 35 Mn.
At I4MS 2015 participating SMEs will present their experiences, results achieved and impact made. They will explain how they have benefited and what the adaption of innovative ICT has meant for their business. European support does not just exist at EU level.
Action at regional level supported through programmes such as Smart Specialisation present the good opportunity to reach out to and involve the diverse landscape of European SMEs. At I4MS 2015 participants will be introduced to a new activity designed for such outreach – digital innovation competence centres – and an outlook towards the next stage of I4MS.
I4MS is a EUR 77 Mn initiative of the 'Factories of the Future' partnership designed to support the adaption of innovative ICT by SMEs. Through seven integrated projects in four key areas, I4MS brings manufacturing SMEs directly into research and innovation projects, introducing them to innovative technologies and supporting the adoption of such technologies.

5. HOW WE DID IT
PLM IN THE CLOUD – By integrating many tools and processes
Achievements so far include the following:
• Product structure based access to design and analysis data
• Capability of defining baselines for configuration control of approved releases
• Easy overview of post-processed simulation results
• Extraction and visualization of pressure distribution curves
• Fast 3D results visualization through web-browser
• Access to remote post processing through web-browser
• Project data are archived in a standard format (STEP, ISO 10303).

6. TruePLM is a scalable solution for engineers that need to manage their
PLM/CAD/CAE information using either portable devices, a multi-user server
system within the firewall or multi-organisation cloud-based subscription services.
Large and complex products such as aircraft, vehicles, oil and gas installations and
ships depend on accurate engineering information for their successful operation
and maintenance throughout a life cycle often measured in decades.
CloudFlow supported Jotne to make a quantum leap into understanding
the Cloud computing environments allowing Jotne to make use of new
technology infrastructure.
HOW WE DID IT
Supporting SMEs to obtain the power of large organisations’ PLM systems at a fraction of the cost
I4MS 2015: Enhancing Digital Transformation in Manufacturing SMEs · 22nd of May · Brussels
7. ● Much of the innovation work conducted by Jotne has been
directly dependent on EU research, and standardisation is the
key to success.
● It opens up the market for new businesses that could help
with the implementation of standards. Businesses which
participate actively in standardisation work can obtain market
advantages by being the first to introduce new products.
● Working with leading European industrial entities and
research organisations is a major asset for growing our
business and network.
● Jotne’s IT company was born in an EU project in the ’90s.
HOW I4MS HELPED
INNOVATION AND GROWTH
I4MS 2015: Enhancing Digital Transformation in Manufacturing SMEs · 22nd of May · Brussels
8. ● Over the years Jotne has supported large organisations with solutions for
PLM/CAD/ERP integrations in multi-organisations projects. Utilizing the new Cloud
capabilities such software will be offered to the SME market in a more efficient way.
Now, SMEs can connect smarter to the supply chain also for larger programs.
Using ISO 10303 (STEP) in the Cloud for:
1. Data exchange – files transfer data between software applications
2. Data sharing – use of a common repository providing universal access of data
3. Data archiving – storage of data for later retrieval by software applications
● Jotne believes that such offerings will strenghten the European SME community and
at the same time be the baseline for further growth at Jotne.
● Jotne, as a software comapny, will benfit from simplified user feedback and
maintenance

commercial solutions at offer also for SMEs…. Meaning that they get reliable results, controlled upgrades, support…
Shift in mentality and in revenue stream.. Licenses no more perpetulal per-set basis but rather on a time-per-user basis…. Smaller investment (CAPEX to OPEX) for SME, constant revenu for ISV
The platform is focused at the end-user, he is working with the tools he know and workflows that he is used to
I4MS motivates the potential end users to start to think about new ways of innovation
gain the skills and trust to “give away” their “research babies”
Continuity beyond the projects… the SMEs use the project as a proof-of-concept and are sure that the use of CloudHPC will pay off
