“When Christians run to the world for judgment we don’t look like examples, but entertainment.”

1. Judgment Vs. Conviction
Luke 6:37
“Most people who seem to judge everything almost always haven’t forgiven
themselves or others.”
Things we should judge:
1. Disputes between believers – 1 Corinthians 6:4
“When we run to the world for judgment we don’t look like examples, but
entertainment.”
2. Unrepentant sin of a church member – 1 Corinthians 5:12-13
“If sin isn’t dealt with it will tear the church apart. These are people who
know
their sin is wrong, don’t care and continue to do it.”

2. Here are the steps to deal with unrepentant sin:
a. Go to them personally in love first and give them the benefit of the
doubt...in case there is a misunderstanding.
b. Secondly, go back with one to two witnesses who have the church
interests at heart
c. Take the elders with you
d. A separation must occur – Matthew 18:15-17
3. False doctrine – Matthew 7:15

Things we should not judge:
1. Outward appearance – James 2:1-4 –
2. The motives of others – 1 Corinthians 4:5
“We tend to error when we don’t know our own heart and try to judge the
heart of others.”
How do you avoid a judgmental spirit:
1. Being forgiving rather than condemning – Luke 6:37

3. 2. Have a generous spirit – Luke 6:38
“A generous spirit sets itself up against a critical spirit. We are able to be a
blessing to others.”
3. Be a learner rather than a critic- - Luke 6:40
“We can learn from anything we choose to learn from. Learners ask
questions.”
Luke 6:41-42
“It’s easy to be a speck inspector when we don’t see our plank that is
blinding us. When we are like this we have critical spirit .When we are
judgmental and critical we can’t receive anything. Be discerning and not let
a critical spirit enlarge itself in our hearts. Give to our relationships. Make a
point to give in our relationships. Pray to God to remove our hearts of
stone and give us a heart of flesh.”
Conviction:
John 16:7-15

4. “The filling of the Spirit describes the crucial work of God enabling a
believer to live a transformed life.”
Matthew 10:34
“Christ spirit is the great wedge driving sword. If this spirit lives in us we
should bring light to what eternal side people are on.”
2 Corinthians 2:15-16
Proverbs 24:24-25
“It should not surprise us that as we follow Christ people who want to
remain in sin should start to get uncomfortable and not want to be around
us. We will be accused of being judgmental without even saying a word. In
general we are disliked and avoided for the sake of His name. Others will be
attracted to us for the same reason. This is sure proof of the indwelling of
the Holy Spirit. If this does not happen can anyone rightly claim to have a
measure of the Holy Spirit? Holiness by its very nature illuminates sin.”

5. The privilege of conviction:
“Conviction of sin is one of the rarest things to strike a man and is the threshold
for understanding God.”
Isaiah 59:2
“For a person to repent they must be convicted in their heart to repent. One
person learns in their heart that they are sinner and wants to do something
about it. Another learns they are and does nothing about, what’s the
difference…repentance.”
2 Timothy 2:24-26
“God has to grant repentance and the only way that happens is if your heart
feels repentant.”
“An unrepentant person has been taken captive by Satan. God through the Holy
Spirit must touch that person’s heart and bring about conviction.”
Deuteronomy 10:16
“A person may have head knowledge that they are a sinner and may sit on that
knowledge for years without doing anything. But when their head knowledge
becomes heart knowledge they will be more inclined to do something about it.”
