Out of the dark –
vom Umgang mit der “Schatten-IT”
3. Out of the dark
vom Umgang mit der “Schatten-IT”
§ Das Thema "Schatten IT" erlebt derzeit eine neue
Dimension. Autonom entwickelte IT Systeme, -
Prozesse und -Organisationen etablieren sich in den
Fachabteilungen eines Unternehmens, neben der
offiziellen IT-Infrastruktur.
§ Angetrieben wir dies unter anderem durch neue
Technologien und Services wie mobile Devices,
Social Media, Cloud oder SaaS. Aber auch Faktoren
wie zu rigide Prozesse, fehlende Budgets und
unzureichende Kompetenzen in den internen IT
Abteilungen spielen eine Rolle.
§ Ausserdem fördern viele Anbieter mit ihren
Angeboten und Dienstleistungen die Zunahme der
„Schatten IT“.

§ Gründe und Ausmass der «Schatten IT» - warum
wir die Schatten IT selber fördern?
§ Welche Risiken – aber auch Chancen
können sich dadurch ergeben?
§ «Schatten IT» und IT-Business Alignment?

6. “Schatten IT” ?
verwalten darin u.a. Kundendaten

19. «IT doesn’t matter»
§ «… such as railways and electrical power - IT has
become a commodity. Affordable and accessible to
everyone, it no longer offers a strategic value to
anyone»
§ «… we must focus on its risk more than ist potential
strategic advantage …»
§ Conclusion:
§ Spend less
§ Follow, don’t lead
§ Focus on risks, not opportunities

22. Was ist ‘Schatten IT’
§ « IT devices, software and services outside the ownership
or control of IT organizations » (Gartner)
§ « Shadow IT is hardware or software within an enterprise
that is not supported by the organization’s central IT
department » (Margaret Rouse, 2012)
§ « Der Begriff Schatten-IT beschreibt informations-

24. Was sind die Ursachen von ‘Schatten IT’
§ « Grundsätzlich entsteht Schatten-IT, wenn die von der IT-
Abteilung angebotenen Services nicht den Anforderungen
der Fachabteilungen genügen » (George Spafford 2004)
§ « In the past, shadow IT was often the result of an
impatient employee's desire for immediate access to
hardware, software or a specific web service without going
through the necessary steps to obtain the technology
through corporate channels » (Margaret Rouse, 2012)
© ABB Group
August 28, 2013 | Slide 23
25. Was sind die Riskien von ‘Schatten IT’
§ « Shadow IT can introduce security risks when
unsupported hardware and software are not subject to the
same security measures …. can negatively affect the user
experience … by impacting bandwidth … can also become
a compliance concern when, for example, end users use
DropBox or other free cloud storage services to store
corporate data » (Margaret Rouse, 2012)
§ « … risks of data loss, corruption or misuse, inefficient and
disconnected processes, and information » (Gartner)
§ « Zum einen werden die Themen Compliance und
Risikomanagement zunehmend wichtiger. Zudem spielt die
Industrialisierung der IT innerhalb der Unternehmen
inzwischen eine zentrale Rolle. Schatten-IT steht häufig im
Konflikt mit diesen Themenfeldern» (Rentrop, van Laak, Mevius, 2011)
§ « The data is suddenly not in the organization anymore …»
(Chris Curan, PwC)

26. Was sind die Chancen von ‘Schatten IT’
§ … ausgeprägter Geschäftsbezug
§ … abgeleitet aus den Bedürfnissen der Anwender
§ … Aenderungen gelangen schnell ins Unternehmen
§ … hohe Flexibilität und Anpassbarkeit
§ … informelle Abstimmungswege
§ … kreative Prozesses
§ … soziale Kollaboration bei der Entwicklung
§ … hohe Identifikation mit den Lösungen

28. Shadow IT ist Realität!
§ « Consumerization of IT is an inevitable reality »
« We need to empower employees, but we also need to
teach them » (Mark Dajani, CIO, Kraft Foods)
§ « Classic shadow IT is out there, and if it's something that
is serving a purely functional need and is something that is
not customer-facing, it's not the worst thing in the world. »
(John Murray, CIO at Genworth Wealth Management)
§ « Shadow IT provides juices that help keep organizations –
and their IT departments – on the cutting edge » …
« although this is akin to anarchy for many in IT, shadow IT
in reality pulls the company in more productive directions,
which today include the use of the cloud … » (Dave Linthicum,
Blue Mountain Labs)

29. IT – Business Alignment ist kritisch!
§ « Shadow IT, cloud-based applications and personal
devices are now our competition. The only way we can
ensure that we perform better than our competitors is by
getting closer to the customer, understanding their
challenges and delivering solutions that provide what they
need. If IT is seen as a trusted advisor and is agile enough
to provide what is needed, when it’s needed, there is no
reason for the customer to look elsewhere. » (Source: “Managing
shadow IT” by Vawns Guest and Patrick Bolger on ComputerWeekly.com, Sept. 2012)
§ « Instead of fighting to retain control, IT leadership should
focus on managing risk and learn to spot where employees
are adding value with their self-provisioned tools and
services » (Brian Lillie, CIO at Equinix)

32. Voraussetzung …
Applikations-Services sieht (à Dilemma der IT).
aufzuzeigen, was damit möglich ist.
