1. Academic Initiative – RDz Install Instructions
RDz Installation Instructions
When a professor joins the Academic Initiative program, they agree to certain
terms and conditions of the program. To view the program agreements by
country, go to
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/university/membership/program_agreemen
t.html
IBM Academic Initiative members can get full versions of a large selection of IBM
software, at no charge. Most of the software can be downloaded from the
Software Catalog, and a few additional products are available on CD by request.
The Software Catalog contains products from each IBM software brand:
Information Management (including Cognos), Lotus, Rational, Tivoli, and
WebSphere (including ILOG). Members can search for software in the catalog by
specifying text (such as a product name), a category, or a part number.
RDz 7.6 versus 8.0.3
While we recommend you download 8.0.3, if you are debugging and testing
COBOL and using Windows 7, you may want to consider 7.6 so you can create
an executable.
Basic Requirements
Once you have determined which version to install, please make sure your
computer meets basic requirements:
RDz 7.6 RDz 8.0.3
• Windows XP or later
• 5 gigs of available disk space
• 1.5 gigs of RAM
• Windows XP or later
• 5 gigs of available disk space
• 1.5 gigs of RAM
◦ 1.5 gigs of RAM will work for
product training
◦ 2 gigs is recommended for
product use in development
Please note, the RDz client is quite large and will require a decent amount of
time to download on a decent connection.

https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/university/software/get_software.html
2. Once on the website, search for:
IBM Rational Developer for System z with EGL V8.0.3 (Core) Multilingual
Multiplatform eAssembly (CRG26ML)
OR
IBM Rational Developer for System z with EGL V7.6 (Core) Multiplatform
Multilingual eAssembly (CR9M2ML)
Expand your selection and “Select All”. Proceed to the bottom of the page to

If you are using Download Director, the files should be saved on your computer

Open the RDz Core disk folder, then the RDz803EGL_Setup >
launchpad_AdminInstall.exe or launchpad_UserInst.exe (dependent on your

Only install functionality that you downloaded in the package. If you only want
RDz, only select that from the install list.
Next you will be asked about the license agreements. Read and accept to move
forward in the installation process.
3. Academic Initiative – RDz Install Instructions
You will need to designate two directories for the installed software – "Shared
Resources" directory – where other IBM Rational products install into, and a
Package Group directory, for the unique files needed for RDz
We recommend placing the files in separate areas of your hard-drive
Specify (or Browse to) an Installation Directory on your workstation

Licensing Keys
Most IBM Rational products require license keys (or activation kits) in order to
use them. To view a list of which Rational products require license keys,
activation kits, go to
https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/iwm/web/reg/signup.do?
source=scholars .
Academic Initiative members receive permanent license keys. Keys are valid for
use on a single host/machine and cannot be transferred or moved.
6. Academic Initiative – RDz Install Instructions
To determine if the Rational product you want to use needs a key or activation kit
– https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/university/support/rationalproducts.html.
Note: The license activation kit is a permanent license for products and must be
installed within the first 30 days after installing the product. Although these
products are available for immediate use as soon as you download them, if you
do not install the activation kit, after 30 days you will receive a message that your
trial license is about to expire.
