2. Background
The overall objective of the project was to address the
quality and safety of milk marketed by informal
traders in Morogoro and Tanga,
To transform informal milk traders to formal
businesses through training and certification approach
and
Improve communication among dairy stakeholders
through Dairy Development Forum
3. Achievement
October, 2014 - March , 2015
Training of BDS providers
TDB through a competitive approach selected
seven (7) BDS to attended a induction course and
intended to carried training of stakeholders in
Handeni and Lushoto districts
- 3 BDS for Handeni
- 4 BDS for Lushoto (Shume, Mlalo, Bumbuli
4. This induction was guided by the Training of
Trainers Module developed by ASARECA/PAAP.
induction also included the practical session on
the milk platform tests.
The research findings of SFFF2 presented to BDS
to increase awareness and provide evidence on the
importance of proper animal health management
and proper handling of milk and milk products
for protecting health of the public
5. Strengthening Regulation
the TDB in collaborated with LGA put in
place dairy inspection system to regulate
hygienic milk handling and trading. The
minister appointed dairy inspectors and
TDB facilitated the training of two
(2)inspectors for Lushoto and Handeni.
6. Training of Milk traders
second training took place in Dakawa
24 Milk traders were trained in Dakawa
total trained milk traders is now 44
Mode of payment The mode of payment was 100%
check off system… paid by the milk collection owner
Two more training batches expected to take place in
2nd week of April, 2015 in Kilosa (Dumila and
Kimamba) which will make a number to 100..
Lushoto training will be facilitated as from April to
June, 2015
7. Prepare 5th DDF meeting
The Objective of the Meeting will be to continue to
address the agenda on strategies for expanding the
national dairy herd and business solutions for year
round availability of quality feeds.
5th DDF scheduled to take place in Manyara
during the milk week on 29/05/2015

8. Gender capacity assessment
It oriented the team and raised awareness on
gender and it’s importance in Development
The summary of the way forward resulted from
Gender discussion were as follows:
Carry out Gender Analysis in the Dairy industry
Develop gender policy and strategy
Develop procedures at institutional level as coping
strategies to overcome gender issues during
implementation of Moremilk It project

Forge partnership with institution like
TGNP, Ministry Community Development,
Gender, youth and Children.
TDB to initiate gender focal point…. add
gender related activities in one of the TDB

10. Challenge
BDS deliver training to some of the dairy
stakeholders by charging fees contrary to
training delivered by Heifer and FAIDA
MALi which are subsidized (training
material and refeshement). This take palce
in the moremilkit project
