- 2. What is a smart city? A smart city is where every person and every device in the city is provided with all the information they need to make smart decisions about what to do now, and what plans to make for the future, in a way that enables the city as a whole to work well.
- 3. Connectivity requirements • In order for this to happen, all potentially useful data needs to be collected, aggregated appropriately, put into the most useful format and delivered in a timely manner to everyone and everything that could use it. • And a city needs a connectivity infrastructure that can support this
- 4. Implications for a city • Simply aiming for high quality internet connectivity for businesses and residents will not work • Not enough just to think about the technology – the commercials are just as important • Needs a complete rethink!
- 5. This means ... Connectivity needs to be: •Ubiquitous and seamless •Wired and wireless •Able to deliver data at every level of security and QoS •Under flexible and easy to access commercial terms
- 6. A standardised approach “80% of the problems and opportunities facing your city are common to many other cities and can be best dealt with using standardised approaches.
