5. OUR Work
• Launching of a Gurgaon Water Campaign which starts Outdoor
hoardings in association with MCG. The campaign will later use digital,
mobile, ambient and other media vehicles to spread awareness.
• Up-gradation of the existing rainwater nallahs across Gurgaon starting
with the nallah at the Genpact crossing on Golf Course Road (1.2 km).
The redefined nallahs will not only mitigate the problem of storm
water management but in addition will also improve pedestrian traffic
management.
• Cleaning up of villages and improving sanitation and conditions
around them. The initiative started with Sikandarpur, which has been a
huge success. We are now taking this initiative across more villages
with Nathupur identified as the next village.
6. • Further development and events to plant trees and
flowers at the biodiversity park located in the Aravalli
Range near the Delhi border. This project will not only
reinforce the local ecology but also change the
landscape of the entire Range in the area.
• Working with NGOs to build a wider network that
encourages the recycling of newspapers into bags and
other products.
• Launching a school initiative that teaches kids to
become more aware about their environment and take
positive steps to improve and preserve it. The
awareness drive will include events, presentations and
projects for children of all age groups.
7. Current Projects
Million Trees Gurgaon
Million trees Gurgaon aims to plant a million trees in the city of Gurgaon.
milliontreesgurgaon has been able to involve over 15000 individuals,
school kids from across 30 schools, civil society of Gurgaon and
employees from varied corporate who have come to the park and
planted in large numbers.
The “milliontreesgurgaon” has been aiming for eventually transformation
of the Aravali Biodiversity Park, Gurgaon into a conservation sanctuary for
birds, animals and plants.
A sense of achievement and satisfaction meets us as we
put the two last planting seasons for the year 2011 and
2012 behind.
8. Current Projects
The Aravali Biodiversity Park, Gurgaon
The Aravali Biodiversity Park, Gurgaon is dedicated to the creation, conservation
and interpretation of forests native to the Aravali range. It offers a rich variety of
resources, such as a broad range of microclimates, plant species and vegetation
structures.
We have lost a large part of the Aravali range, its flora and fauna to rampant
development and urbanization. The Aravali Biodiversity Park was once a mining
site. The land still has fresh scars of the mining era. “Milliontreesgurgaon” intends
to restore this scarred land into a biodiversity reserve and celebrate the rich flora
of the Aravali Range.
The Aravali Biodiversity Park spread across 576 acres of pristine space has been
developed. Despite the fact that the park is still a “Work in progress” it enjoys a
daily footfall of 200+ people walking, cycling, jogging, trekking, bird watching,
gardening, contemplation and cultural expression.
9. Issues that we are working on
Liquor shops on Gurgaon’s Main Roads
We have filed a petition with the govt. of
Haryana to disallow liquor vends on the roads
of Gurgaon, and instead have them moved to
commercial markets.
