Hans Riegel created the first gummy bears in the 1920s in Germany, inspired by the trained bears he saw as a child. He used gum Arabic as the base ingredient, which is why he called them "gummy" bears. The process of making gummy bears involves mixing gelatin, corn syrup, sugar, water, coloring, and flavorings into a slurry. The slurry is injected into corn starch molds shaped like bears, then cured for 24 hours before being tumbled with oil and packaged for sale.
