2. COMPANY PROFILE
• TOPCEM company started production in the year 2006 at
Lumshnong in Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya. It produces 1 Lakhs
MT of Cement per month. It has more than 450 dealers across
NE Region and North Bengal. It has 28 sales promoters. It
actively participate in Environmental Issues as well.
• PRODUCT :
• 43 Grade Ordinary Portland Cement; It is produced by MCL
under the brand name “TOPCEM OPC 43 GRADE”
• 53 Grade Ordinary Portland Cement; it is also produced by
MCL under the Brand name “TOPCEM OPC 53 GRADE”
• PORTLAND POZZOLANA CEMENT; Produced by MCL under the
brand name “TOPCEM PORTLAND POZZOLANA CEMENT”

3. • The company is having dual certifications as
an ISO 9000:2001 certified, as well as an
environment-friendly company with ISO
14001 certification for environment systems,
first in North East. It have taken up massive
drive for development of Green belt in NER
and has a target of planting 70000 saplings
each year.

4. Meghalaya Cement Limited is one of the most
profitable cement manufacturers in North East
India.

5. TAXATION ASPECT
• The company is paying 12.36% service tax
from the contractors, Excise Duty of 12%,
Education Cess of 2% , Higher Education Cess
of 1% and Value Added Tax of 13.5% for using
the services of others and for the sale of their
product.

production provision.

8. ERP meaning (HERCULES)
(Enterprise Resource Planning) An integrated information
system that serves all departments within an enterprise.
Evolving out of the manufacturing industry, ERP implies
the use of packaged software rather than proprietary
software written by or for one customer. ERP modules
may be able to interface with an organization's own
Software with varying degrees of effort, and, depending
on the software, ERP modules may be alterable via the
vendor's proprietary tools as well as proprietary or
standard programming languages.

• This study is currently one of the first
complete sets of data available on Enterprise
Resource Planning Systems in Topcem Cement
• Overall, we found that the benefits that result
from the application of an ERP in accounting
department are great in number and most of
these are rated very high. Thus, we are in the
position to argue that it is worthwhile for an
enterprise to include accounting in its ERP
system.

17. SUSSESTION
• Accountants need to have good IT skills to
apply their knowledge in this new IT-led work
environment.
• Top management support, collaboration
within the organization and between the
organization and the ERP provider and
employee training/participation appear to be
successful ingredients in ERP applications.
