Enjoy May activities at the Marine Club
Check out fun activities for May at www.mccshh.com/Club.html, including the
Club’s version of American Idol May 17. Watch NBA playoffs on big screens every
Thursday and Friday night. The Marine Club on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint
base is open to all ranks, all services, all DoD ID card holders and their guests.
Parking area work ongoing through end of May
Every weekend from now through May 27, maintenance will be conducted on the
parking structure adjacent to Building 29 on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint
base.
All vehicles must be removed from the parking structure no later than 4:30 p.m. each
Friday through 10 p.m. each Sunday so workers can safely perform maintenance. Any
vehicles not removed by 5:30 p.m. Fridays are subject to towing at the owner’s expense.

NEW – U.S. Army Cyber Command looking for the next HHC
Commander
U.S. Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER) is looking for the next HHC Commander to
lead the Soldiers, Civilians, and Family Members of the command as they operate and
defend all Army networks, conduct cyberspace operations and develop the future cyber
force. Command interviews will begin on or about May 20. This command is a MAJ/O-
4 opportunity with anticipated change of command in late summer 2013. Senior
captains with impeccable files will be considered. The position is for assignment at Fort
Meade, MD, but also includes forces assigned to Fort Belvoir, VA. Candidates must be
PCS eligible for assignment to or already assigned to the National Capital Region.

Civilian employees need annual leave assist
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall employees Marcia Freeman, director of Resource
Management, Donna Maxey, director of Plans, Analysis and Integration, and two
Defense Commissary Agency employees, Kizzy Jackson, a grocery department
employee and William “Duke” Ayers, a produce department worker, both employed
at the JBM-HH Commissary on the Fort Myer side of the base are all approved
recipients of the civilian personnel annual leave donor program. Due to medical issues,
they have exhausted both sick and annual leave.
Department of the Army civilian employees who would like to donate annual leave
to Freeman, Maxey, Jackson or Ayers must fill out Form OPM 630A, "Request to
Donate Annual Leave to Leave Recipient Under the Voluntary Leave Transfer Program
(Within Agency)" at www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/opm630a.pdf.
If you are a federal government civilian employee outside the Department of the
Army and want to donate annual leave to Freeman, Maxey, Jackson or Ayers, must
complete OPM 630B, "Request to Donate Annual Leave to Leave Recipient Under the
Voluntary Leave Transfer Program (Outside Agency)" at

Twilight Tattoo 2013 Schedule
Twilight Tattoo is an hour-long military pageant featuring Soldiers from the 3rd U.S.
Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own."
Experience a glimpse into American history through performances by The U.S. Army
Blues, vocalists from The U.S. Army Band Downrange, The Old Guard Fife and Drum
Corps, and The U.S. Army Drill Team.
This performance is free and open to the public. Due to budget constraints
unfortunately we will not have bleachers for Twilight Tattoo this year. Grass seating is
available, and we recommend you bring a blanket or lawn chairs. For more information

Twilight Tattoo performances begin at 7 p.m. Pre-ceremony pageantry begins at 6:45
p.m. Performances May 15 and May 29 through June 26 will be located at Summerall
Field on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. Performances from July 10 through
Aug. 28 will be located at Whipple Field on Joint Base Myer-Henderson. Field locations

specific date.
NEW – Sunday Brunch at Spates Community Club
Spates Community Club is now hosting Sunday Brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
every Sunday. Prices are $13.95 for adults, $11.95 for kids 6-12 and kids 5 and under eat
free. Menu items include Omelet Station, Waffle Bar, Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Sausage,
Biscuits and Gravy, Home Fried Potatoes, Beef Carving Station, Sliced Ham, Salmon,
Desert Station, Fresh Fruit, Salad Bar, Danish, Croissants and Muffins.
Reservations are taken and walk-in's are welcome.

The Zembiec Pool on Henderson Hall will open on Tuesday, May 14. The Fort Myer
Officers’ Club pool will open on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27. For more

Memorial Day picnic at the pools
Enjoy Memorial Day at the Fort Myer Officers’ Club Monday, May 27 from 11 a.m. to
8 p.m. There will be a DJ, dancing, a moon bounce, face painting and general fun for
everyone.
The event is open to those who hold pool or combination passes; barbeque is for all
members and their guests from noon to 5 p.m. No reservations are required. Member’s
guests are welcome to join the pool party for $10, payable at the door. Note that the

NEW – Java Café Early Closing
The Java Café will close one hour early, at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, May 15, for
required training. The staff looks forward to serving you when they re-open the
following day, Thursday, May 16, at 7:30 a.m.
Deadline Extended: Volunteers needed for the Tragedy Assistance
Program for Survivors
There is still time to volunteer and show your support. The Tragedy Assistance
Program for Survivors (TAPS) is looking for up to 500 military volunteers to serve as
mentors to children of fallen service members during the TAPS Camp Good Grief
during the Memorial Day weekend.
TAPS is a nonprofit organization that provides immediate and long-term support
and care to the families of our nation's fallen heroes. In less than a month, over
Memorial Day Weekend, we will be holding our 18th Annual TAPS Survivor Seminar
and Good Grief Camp here in the DC area hosting children and teens from across the
country. What makes our camp unique are the active duty men and women and recent
veterans who volunteer to provide one-on-one mentoring to the children of our
deceased service members.

Mentors’ Schedule:
Mandatory Training: May 22, 6 to 9 p.m. (or) May 23, 1 to 4 p.m.
Memorial Day Weekend: May 24, 7:30 a.m. to 5 :30 p.m.
May 25, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
May 26, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
May 27 (optional) Arlington Cemetery Ceremony in dress uniform
Uniform: Casual (shorts, jeans, sandals, tennis shoes, etc.). Each Mentor will receive
two (2) TAPS t-shirts to be worn for all activities Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Cost: None! During the camp, you will eat all meals with your Mentee. TAPS will have
parking available at specific locations that will be at no cost.
Where: The training sessions and majority of activities will occur at the Marriott Crystal
Gateway in Crystal City, VA. For all other activities outside the hotel, bus
transportation will be provided.

NEW – Threat Awareness and Reporting Program (TARP) annual
training scheduled
Threat Awareness and Reporting Program (TARP) annual training will be held at the
Town Hall building on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH at 10 a.m. on the following
dates:
May 16 - Thursday
June 12 - Wednesday
July 17 - Wednesday
NOTE: This training is given by the 902nd MI Group Fort Belvoir and is mandatory

NEW – Patient Education Classes
Adopt a healthy lifestyle -- attend a nutrition education class at Rader Clinic. The
Pre-diabetes class covers information on how to prevent or delay developing diabetes.
The Healthy Heart class covers lifestyle changes to improve high cholesterol and/or
high blood pressure. Upcoming Healthy Heart Class is set for Thursday, May 16 or
June 13 at 1 pm; May 23 or June 27 at 8:30 am; Pre-diabetes Class on June 6 at 1 pm or
June 20 at 8:30 am. Classes are open to all beneficiaries of the military health system,

WMZQ to host live radio show on Joint Base-Myer Henderson Hall

As part of their Military Appreciation Week 98.7 WMZQ-FM will broadcast their
morning radio show live from Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. Join Morning DJ Boxer
as he broadcasts from outside the JBM-HH Community Center and Dining Facility
Thursday, May 16 from 5 – 9 a.m. Units from every service are asked to come out and
enjoy the show. Rain or shine the show still goes on. The rain location will be inside the
community center.

JBM-HH celebrates Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall will celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage
Month on Wednesday, May 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Community Center,
building 405 on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH. A cultural performance and food

Iwo Jima 7k Race – Updated Information
Registration is open for the May 22 Iwo Jima 7k Race. Held on the joint base, the race
begins at 6:30 a.m. at the Cpl Terry L. Smith Gym and proceeds to the Marine Corps
War Memorial, popularly known as the Iwo Jima Memorial, before returning to Smith
Gym. Tee-shirts will be given to the first 150 registered participants, and prizes will be
awarded to the top three male and female runners. Online registration closes May 20;
onsite registration is available the day of the event beginning 5:15 – 6:15 a.m. For more

NEW – Free Colonial Williamsburg Memorial Day weekend tickets
available
Colonial Williamsburg is honoring the sacrifices and dedication of those who serve.
Active duty military, reservists, retirees, veterans, and their family members are invited
to Colonial Williamsburg Memorial Day weekend, May 24 – 27. Get your free tickets at
the JBM-HH Community Center, located at 228 McNair Road, Bldg. 405, Fort Myer, VA
22191 while supplies last.
Tickets are available to active duty Servicemembers through May 17. On May 20, all
other FMWR patrons may pick up their tickets in the Community Center during regular

 Street theater –where you will encounter historic characters during unpredictable
and tumultuous times. Meet the locals—townspeople, trades people,

Spring, Summer bring annual community yard sale!
The annual JBM-HH Community Yard Sale is set for Saturday, June 1, rain or shine,
from 8 a.m. to noon along Jackson and Sheridan Avenues on Fort Myer and on 4th
Avenue on Fort McNair. This is open to everyone. JBM-HH residents are encouraged to
participate. Set-up and staging is permitted on the sidewalks along the Jackson and
Sheridan. Items may also be donated to the Thrift Shop, which will be open that day.
Army Substance Abuse Training for Civilians
The training listed below will be held on the Fort Myer portion of Joint Base Myer-
Henderson Hall in Building 230 from 1 to 2 p.m. Civilians are required to have two
hours of Army Substance Abuse training which would include Drug Free Workplace
(Substance Abuse Awareness) training and one hour of Suicide Awareness training.
If an employee participated in the Suicide Awareness Stand Down they will have
met the requirement for the year. If an employee did the Workplace Violence on line it
will also meet the yearly requirement. If anyone needs special accommodations or
there are any questions call 703-696-3787.

NEW – Vacation Bible School
This June 24 through 28 the JBM-HH Chapel will conduct Ecumenical Vacation Bible
School from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the Memorial Chapel Fellowship Hall with the Theme
of Kingdom Rock for children ages 3 years - 6th grade. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
May 19 at Memorial Chapel and runs until all 50 slots are filled. Please address any

Gettysburg Trip
The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that
ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Learn
more about this war, the people, the places, and the meaning of the war to Americans

Welcome to Germany
A Welcome to Germany class is set for Thursday, May 16 from 10 to 11 am at Army
Community Service, Bldg 201, on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH. This briefing
provides an overview of German customs, culture, and language for German

Hearts Apart to meet
Hearts Apart is a support group for spouses, fiancés, parents, or significant others of
deployed or geographically separated civilians and military members. This group is
designed to be a fun networking opportunity for those experiencing separation from a
loved one. The next meeting will be at the American Legion, Post 139, Arlington, VA
2220 on Wednesday, May 18.

Survivor Outreach Services to offer retirement planning
JBM-HH Survivor Outreach Services (SOS) will have a financial education seminar
on "Retirement Planning and Savings Plan" Tuesday, May 21 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the
Army Community Service classroom, Building 201 on the Fort Myer portion of the joint
base.

NEW – Stress Management (introductory level presentation for adults)
A stress management class will be held on May 15 from 9 to 11 a.m., in the JBM-HH

of identifying stressors in their life and how to create their own stress management

NEW – Prostate Cancer Support Group Meetings at Walter Reed
The Prostate Cancer Support Group meets at Walter Reed National Military
Medical Center the 3rd Thursday of every month. The next meeting will be Thursday,

Autism Class Slated
The Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall's Army Exceptional Family Member Program is
sponsoring "Tricare / Other Benefits and Safety Issues for Military and DOD Civilian
Parents with Children with Autism and Other Cognitive Disabilities" class and support
group on Thursday, May 30 from noon to 3 pm at the JBM-HH Army Community
Service, Bldg 201 Custer Road, Fort Myer, Virginia. Guest speaker will be LTC Scott
Campbell, Parent of an Autistic child and board member of the Autism Society of
America's Northern Virginia Chapter. Join us for a wonderful opportunity for Families
to not only learn about medical benefits and safety issues for their Autistic children, but
to also network with other Families. Reservations are required. Child care will not be

NEW – Reals Colors® Real Stress
Marine Corps Community Services wants to help improve your communications
skills at a Real Colors® Real Stress workshop Thursday, May 30, 1 – 4:30 p.m. This
communication and stress management workshop is based on identifying personality
temperaments. This evidence based curriculum focuses on how you prefer to
communicate and, in turn, how to work well with others in both a personal and
professional capacity. Stress management plans and techniques are developed with an

NEW – PCS Class
Marine Corps Community Services Relocation Assistance program holds a
Permanent Change of Station (PCS) class Thursday, May 30, 1 – 3 p.m., in Bldg. 12’s
conference room. The class covers travel, movement of household goods, resources
such as Military HomeFront and Military OneSource, and budgeting for your move.
Those being stationed overseas can learn about Overseas TriCare, passport procedures,

NEW – Smooth Move Class set
A Smooth Move is an informal joint service brief for Servicemembers planning to PCS.
Learn about your new duty station, moving with TRICARE, arranging household goods
shipment with the Transportation Office, Sponsorship, housing and more. The next

Parking area work ongoing through end of May Every weekend from now through May 27, maintenance will be conducted on the parking structure adjacent to Building 29 on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. All vehicles must be removed from the parking structure no later than 4:30 p.m. each Friday through 10 p.m. each Sunday so workers can safely perform maintenance.   • 2. U.S. Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER) is looking for the next HHC Commander to lead the Soldiers, Civilians, and Family Members of the command as they operate and defend all Army networks, conduct cyberspace operations and develop the future cyber force. Command interviews will begin on or about May 20. This command is a MAJ/O- 4 opportunity with anticipated change of command in late summer 2013. Senior captains with impeccable files will be considered. The position is for assignment at Fort Meade, MD, but also includes forces assigned to Fort Belvoir, VA. Twilight Tattoo 2013 Schedule Twilight Tattoo is an hour-long military pageant featuring Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own." Experience a glimpse into American history through performances by The U.S. Army Blues, vocalists from The U.S. Army Band Downrange, The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and The U.S. Army Drill Team. This performance is free and open to the public. Due to budget constraints unfortunately we will not have bleachers for Twilight Tattoo this year. The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) is looking for up to 500 military volunteers to serve as mentors to children of fallen service members during the TAPS Camp Good Grief during the Memorial Day weekend. TAPS is a nonprofit organization that provides immediate and long-term support and care to the families of our nation's fallen heroes. In less than a month, over Memorial Day Weekend, we will be holding our 18th Annual TAPS Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp here in the DC area hosting children and teens from across the country. What makes our camp unique are the active duty men and women and recent veterans who volunteer to provide one-on-one mentoring to the children of our deceased service members. ***Registration DEADLINE extended to May 15*** Mentors’ Schedule: Mandatory Training: May 22, 6 to 9 p.m. (or) May 23, 1 to 4 p.m. Memorial Day Weekend: May 24, 7:30 a.m. to 5 :30 p.m. May 25, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 26, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 27 (optional) Arlington Cemetery Ceremony in dress uniform Uniform: Casual (shorts, jeans, sandals, tennis shoes, etc.). Iwo Jima 7k Race – Updated Information Registration is open for the May 22 Iwo Jima 7k Race. Held on the joint base, the race begins at 6:30 a.m. at the Cpl Terry L. Smith Gym and proceeds to the Marine Corps War Memorial, popularly known as the Iwo Jima Memorial, before returning to Smith Gym. Tee-shirts will be given to the first 150 registered participants, and prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female runners. The annual JBM-HH Community Yard Sale is set for Saturday, June 1, rain or shine, from 8 a.m. to noon along Jackson and Sheridan Avenues on Fort Myer and on 4th Avenue on Fort McNair. This is open to everyone. JBM-HH residents are encouraged to participate. Set-up and staging is permitted on the sidewalks along the Jackson and Sheridan. Items may also be donated to the Thrift Shop, which will be open that day. Army Substance Abuse Training for Civilians The training listed below will be held on the Fort Myer portion of Joint Base Myer- Henderson Hall in Building 230 from 1 to 2 p.m. Civilians are required to have two hours of Army Substance Abuse training which would include Drug Free Workplace (Substance Abuse Awareness) training and one hour of Suicide Awareness training. If an employee participated in the Suicide Awareness Stand Down they will have met the requirement for the year. If an employee did the Workplace Violence on line it will also meet the yearly requirement. Traffic, Roads and Grounds Parking area work ongoing through end of May Every weekend from now through May 27, maintenance will be conducted on the parking structure adjacent to Building 29 on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. All vehicles must be removed from the parking structure no later than 4:30 p.m. each Friday through 10 p.m. each Sunday so workers can safely perform maintenance. Any vehicles not removed by 5:30 p.m. Fridays are subject to towing at the owner’s expense. For more information, call 703-614-5979.
