Back-to-school brigade out front with backpacks
“Operation Homefront DC Metro” has 5,000 backpacks to hand out this summer to
military children. Each backpack is full of school supplies and all children of active
duty, E6 and below, are eligible to get a backpack. Families will have to register to
receive the backpacks. Do this by going to the website
www.operationhomefront.net/dcmetro. The backpacks will be handed out at five
locations the second week of August as follows:
Monday, Aug. 12 - Woodbridge, Va. (between Quantico and Fort Belvoir)

the fourth Thursday of the month, the pharmacy will be open from 7 to 11 a.m. Use of the
DiLorenzo Pharmacy is limited to those who are authorized to use military medical facilities

NEW – Free certification testing opportunity for Marines
Headquarters Marine Corps and Henderson Hall Education Center offer a free
certification testing opportunity for Marines in MOS fields 3043, 3051, 0431, and 0491,
for E-4 and above. This training initiative will help active duty Marines earn industry
certifications that map to their occupational specialties.
The purpose of the Certified Logistics Technician (CLTAE) program is to recognize
individuals who demonstrate mastery of the core competencies of material handling at
the front-line (entry-level through front-line supervisor) through successful completion
of the certification assessments. The goal of the CLTAE certification program is to raise
the level of performance of logistics workers both to assist the individuals in finding
higher-wage jobs and to help employers ensure their workforce increases the company's
productivity and competitiveness. CLTAE is in two parts: the foundation level Certified
Logistics Associate certificate and the mid-level tech technical CLT certification. Before
sitting for the CLTAE assessment, candidates must have a CLA certificate. Delivered
online, each assessment contains about 80 multiple-choice questions. Individuals are
allowed 90-120 minutes to complete each assessment. If you have MOS 3043, 3051, 0431
or 0491, for E-4 and above, we would like to offer you the opportunity to test.

The Directorate of Environmental Management is having shredding events Tuesday,

29 from 9 to 10 a.m., and at Building 62 from 10 to 11 a.m.
Aug. 14, shredding will be at Building 29, Henderson Hall portion of the joint base

preparing for interviews.
On Aug. 8, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., learn to build your network to access the hidden job
market by tapping into social networking sites.
On Aug. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon, learn how to market yourself for a second career.
On Aug. 22, “Cracking the Code to the Federal Hiring Process” is held from 1 to 3
p.m. This class explains how to apply for federal jobs, including how to prepare the

Golf Tournament
Tourney registration is now open for the Sept. 27 Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall
Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation will host the Inaugural SLICE of Summer
Scramble golf tournament. The tournament will be played on Fort Belvoir's Gunston
Golf Course. The tournament format will be four person teams playing a best ball
scramble. Awards will be given based on the group or team’s overall score. There will
also be special contests for longest drive, closest to pin, longest putt and hole in
one. Each person can register with a buddy or as a team of four. Registration is $70 per

School Year" for military and DoD civilian parents with children with autism and other
cognitive disabilities Thursday, Aug. 8 from noon to 3 p.m. The class will be held in

Scott Campbell, parent of an autistic child and board member of the Autism Society of
