Furlough Closures on JBM-HH
Due to sequestration furlough closures have begun on JBM-HH. For a full list of the

Marine Corps Exchange to resume longer hours
Beginning today, the Marine Corps Exchange and The Vineyard Wine & Spirits
will remain open until 8 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays. New hours are weekdays 10
a.m. – 8 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. For more information,

Twilight Tattoo performances run through August
Twilight Tattoo, Wednesdays through Aug. 28, is an hour-long military pageant
featuring Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and The U.S.
Army Band "Pershing's Own."
This performance is free and open to the public. Grass seating is available, and we
recommend you bring a blanket or lawn chairs. For more information on group
reservations, contact the U.S. Army Military District of Washington at 202-685-2888.
Performances from July 17 through Aug. 28 are at Whipple Field on the Fort Myer
portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson. Field locations may vary, please check
http://twilight.mdw.army.mil/schedule prior to attending a specific date. Twilight
Tattoo performances begin at 7 p.m. Pre-ceremony pageantry begins at 6:45 p.m.
Fort Myer Thrift Shop new summer hours
The Fort Myer Thrift Shop summer schedule - open Tuesday and Wednesday in July
and August from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and closed on Thursdays. The Thrift Shop will
not accept any consignments of shoes and clothing during the summer month schedule.

NEW – New Aquatics Training for Marines
MCCS Semper Fit is now offering AMP-IT (Aquatics Maximum Power Intense
Training) for active duty and reserve Marines only. Sessions are Tuesday and
Thursdays 6:30 - 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., in the Maj. Douglas A. Zembiec

Frappuccino ‘Happy Hour’
The MCX Java Café is participating in a Starbucks promotion of Frappuccino

HITT Instructor Training Offered
Nominations are being accepted for motivated NCOs and above (first come first
serve—maximum of 30 individuals) to attend the level one High Intensity Tactical
Training (HITT) instructor course July 15 through 18, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Corp. Terry
L. Smith Gymnasium HITT Center. The Marine Corps’ HITT program is a
comprehensive combat-specific strength and conditioning program that is essential to a
Marine’s physical development, combat readiness, and resiliency. Program emphasis is
on key components with relation to superior speed, power, strength, flexibility,
endurance and overall combat readiness while reducing the likelihood of injury and
ensuring that all Marines are physically prepared for real-time combat/tactical

Job Search Classes Scheduled
The MCCS Career Resource Management Center has classes scheduled in July to
assist service members and their families with their job searches. On July 16, “Cracking
the Code to the Federal Hiring Process” is held 1 – 3 p.m. This class explains how to
apply for federal jobs, including how to prepare the appropriate résumé. On July 17,
9:30 – 11 a.m., learn how to generate leads and create
a job search plan. On July 24, 9:30 – 11 a.m., “Social Media and Your Job Search” will
explain how to use social media, including LinkedIn. Also, Adecco will be on site July
31, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., to conduct a military spouse career connections intake.
Threat Awareness and Reporting Program (TARP) annual training
scheduled
Threat Awareness and Reporting Program (TARP) annual training will be held at the
Town Hall building on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH at 10 a.m. July 17.
NOTE: This training is given by the 902nd MI Group Fort Belvoir and is mandatory
for all US Army employees every calendar year. For more information call 703-696-0756.
NEW – Stroke and Turn Clinic Update
MCCS Semper Fit Aquatics will offer a Stroke and Turn Clinic. Due to furloughs,

Sunsets with a Soundtrack | The U.S. Army Orchestra
This U.S. Army Orchestra will feature several works for solo violin and French horn.
SSG Hannah Eldridge, violin, will perform two lively virtuoso pieces, one by Fritz
Kreisler, and the other by Manuel de Falla. SSG Evan Geiger will perform two
movements from Richard Strauss’ famous Concerto for Horn and Orchestra. The
program will begin with the first movement of Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 1,
and the wonderful vocal talents of tenor, SFC Colin Eaton, will later round out the
evening’s music.
NEW – NFL Punt, Pass and Kick 2013
Child, Youth and School Services Youth Sports and Fitness presents NFL Punt, Pass
and Kick 2013 on Friday, July 19 from 2 to 6 p.m. Come be a part of the NFL’s
commitment to PLAY 60! This program is free and open to boys and girls 6-15. Grab

Youth Sports & Fitness presents Challenger Sports British Soccer
Camp
The SKIES program is offering Swimming Lessons this summer:; Session 4 – July 22
to Aug. 1; and Session 5 – Aug. 5 to 15.
Youth Sports and Fitness is also offering one remaining session of British Soccer this
summer, August 19 to 23, from 9 a.m. to noon for ages 5 to 16 yrs, and from 4 to 5:30
p.m. for ages 3 to 5 years. They are also offering one session of British Multi-Sports,
July 29 to Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to noon for ages 5-16 yrs. Register at CYSS Parent Central

NEW – General Powell Book-Signing at the MCX
Gen. Colin L. Powell, former Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of
Staff, will sign copies of his latest book, “It Worked for Me: In Life and Leadership,” on
Thursday, July 25, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., at the Henderson Hall Marine Corps Exchange. The
memoir, which begins with his “Thirteen Rules,” expounds on General Powell’s life
lessons and stories, on principles that shaped his life and career, and on being a great
manager or leader. Books will be available for purchase, and those wishing to have their

2013 JBM-HH Army Ten Miler Qualifiers
Registration is now open for this year’s 2013 JBM-HH Army Ten Miler Team
Qualifiers. This year’s Army Ten Miler will be Sunday, Oct. 20. FMWR will be hosting
an ATM qualifier this summer for active duty military on Friday, July 26. The ATM
qualifier will be a 10K race on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall beginning at 6:35 a.m. at
the Fort Myer Fitness Center, Building 414. On-line registration will close on the
Wednesday prior to each date. Race day registration will be accepted on each date from
5:30 to 6:15 a.m. inside the Fort Myer Fitness Center, Building 414.

Summer Outdoor Movie Series
Want to catch a free “family friendly” movie under the moon (on the lawn or afloat
in the pool)? The 2013 Summer Outdoor Movie series features “Grease” at 8:30 p.m.

Golf Tournament
On Sept. 27 Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Family and Morale, Welfare, and
Recreation will host the Inaugural SLICE of Summer Scramble golf tournament. The
tournament will be played on Fort Belvoir's Gunston Golf Course. The tournament
format will be four person teams playing a best ball scramble. Awards will be given
based on the group or team’s overall score. There will also be special contests for
longest drive, closest to pin, longest putt and hole in one. Each person can register with
a buddy or as a team of four. Registration is $70 per person which includes green fees,
cart, range bucket, $8 gift certificate to pro shop and BBQ meal package.

Family Readiness
Learn to Cope with Stress
Marine and Family Programs offers a 12-session evidence-based class on coping with
work and family stress by learning to develop and apply effective coping strategies to
deal with stressors. Topics include identifying stressors, deep breathing and muscle
relaxation, assertive communication, changing your self-talk, eating right and exercise
and developing a personal stress management plan. The sessions are open to active
duty personnel, family members and retirees. Dates for the workshops, in Bldg. 12’s
conference room on the Henderson Hall side of the joint base, are July 16 and 18, July
23 and 25, July 30 and Aug. 1, Aug. 13 and 15, and Aug. 20 and 22; times are from 3 to
4:30 p.m. Participants must complete all sessions to receive a certificate of completion.

passport information, as well as customs, culture and language.

Anger Management
An Anger Management (Introductory level presentation for adults) class is set for
Wednesday, July 24 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the ACS Classroom.

occurs in their personal life when they make the choice to react to situations with

Smooth Move class scheduled
Smooth Move is an informal joint service brief for service members planning to PCS.
Learn about your new duty station, moving with TRICARE, arranging household goods
shipment, sponsorship, housing, and more. The next class is set for Thursday, July 25
from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Marine Corps Community Service building 12 Northeast Rd.

A Moving Families Through Change class is set for July 30 from 1 to 5 p.m. in the

provide parents with tools to create an effective Co-parenting relationship through the

NEW – Military Spouse Career Connections Intake
The MCCS Career Resource Management Center holds an intake session for
military spouses Wednesday, July 31, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., in Bldg. 29 on the Henderson
Hall portion of the joint base. A local job placement agency will be on site to interview
military spouse candidates for employment opportunities. For more information or to

Autism Class Slated
The Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall's Army Exceptional Family Member Program is
sponsoring "Top Ten Things You Need to Know About The IEP Process and Extended
School Year" for Military and DOD Civilian Parents with Children with Autism and
Other Cognitive Disabilities" class and support group, Thursday, August 8, noon to 3
p.m., Army Community Service, Bldg 201 Custer Road, Fort Myer, Virginia. Guest
speaker will be LTC Scott Campbell, parent of an Autistic child and board member of
the Autism Society of America's Northern Virginia Chapter. Join us for a wonderful
opportunity for Families and professionals to not only learn about IEP navigation and
extended school year services, but to also network with other Families. Reservations are

Marine Corps Exchange to resume longer hours Beginning today, the Marine Corps Exchange and The Vineyard Wine & Spirits will remain open until 8 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays. Twilight Tattoo performances run through August Twilight Tattoo, Wednesdays through Aug. 28, is an hour-long military pageant featuring Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own." This performance is free and open to the public. Grass seating is available, and we recommend you bring a blanket or lawn chairs. The Marine Corps’ HITT program is a comprehensive combat-specific strength and conditioning program that is essential to a Marine’s physical development, combat readiness, and resiliency. Program emphasis is on key components with relation to superior speed, power, strength, flexibility, endurance and overall combat readiness while reducing the likelihood of injury and ensuring that all Marines are physically prepared for real-time combat/tactical situations while in theatre. Job Search Classes Scheduled The MCCS Career Resource Management Center has classes scheduled in July to assist service members and their families with their job searches. On July 16, “Cracking the Code to the Federal Hiring Process” is held 1 – 3 p.m. This class explains how to apply for federal jobs, including how to prepare the appropriate résumé. On July 17, 9:30 – 11 a.m., learn how to generate leads and create a job search plan. On July 24, 9:30 – 11 a.m., “Social Media and Your Job Search” will explain how to use social media, including LinkedIn. Also, Adecco will be on site July 31, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., to conduct a military spouse career connections intake. Threat Awareness and Reporting Program (TARP) annual training scheduled Threat Awareness and Reporting Program (TARP) annual training will be held at the Town Hall building on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH at 10 a.m. July 17. NEW – The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” event schedule Thursday, July 18, 8 p.m. & Friday, July 19, 8 p.m. West Steps of the U.S. Capital, Washington D.C. Sunsets with a Soundtrack | The U.S. Army Orchestra This U.S. Army Orchestra will feature several works for solo violin and French horn. SSG Hannah Eldridge, violin, will perform two lively virtuoso pieces, one by Fritz Kreisler, and the other by Manuel de Falla. SSG Evan Geiger will perform two movements from Richard Strauss’ famous Concerto for Horn and Orchestra. The program will begin with the first movement of Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 1, and the wonderful vocal talents of tenor, SFC Colin Eaton, will later round out the evening’s music.

For more information, please call 703-979- 8420. 2013 JBM-HH Army Ten Miler Qualifiers Registration is now open for this year’s 2013 JBM-HH Army Ten Miler Team Qualifiers. This year’s Army Ten Miler will be Sunday, Oct. 20. FMWR will be hosting an ATM qualifier this summer for active duty military on Friday, July 26. The ATM qualifier will be a 10K race on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall beginning at 6:35 a.m. at the Fort Myer Fitness Center, Building 414. On-line registration will close on the Wednesday prior to each date. Race day registration will be accepted on each date from 5:30 to 6:15 a.m. inside the Fort Myer Fitness Center, Building 414.

Summer Outdoor Movie Series Want to catch a free “family friendly” movie under the moon (on the lawn or afloat in the pool)? Golf Tournament On Sept. 27 Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation will host the Inaugural SLICE of Summer Scramble golf tournament. The tournament will be played on Fort Belvoir's Gunston Golf Course. The tournament format will be four person teams playing a best ball scramble. Awards will be given based on the group or team’s overall score. There will also be special contests for longest drive, closest to pin, longest putt and hole in one. Each person can register with a buddy or as a team of four. Registration is $70 per person which includes green fees, cart, range bucket, $8 gift certificate to pro shop and BBQ meal package. Family Readiness Learn to Cope with Stress Marine and Family Programs offers a 12-session evidence-based class on coping with work and family stress by learning to develop and apply effective coping strategies to deal with stressors. Topics include identifying stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing your self-talk, eating right and exercise and developing a personal stress management plan. The sessions are open to active duty personnel, family members and retirees. Dates for the workshops, in Bldg. 12’s conference room on the Henderson Hall side of the joint base, are July 16 and 18, July 23 and 25, July 30 and Aug. 1, Aug. 13 and 15, and Aug. 20 and 22; times are from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Participants must complete all sessions to receive a certificate of completion.
