A LITTLE ABOUT ME…
 I am originally from the Chicago suburbs and have
lived in Las Vegas for the past 4 years
 I have been married for 13 years and have 3
wonderful children.
 I have been an elementary education teacher for
over 10 years
 I have taught Kindergarten Science, Kindergarten,
Art/Music, 4th
, 2nd
, and 3rd
grade
 I have a M.Ed degree in Curriculum/Instruction:
Technology and I am currently working towards my
Ed. Specialist degree in Educational Technology
 I have always LOVED to explore new gadgets from
the Apple IIe to the Laser Disc and virtually anything
that has a plug.
WHAT AM I GOING TO
LEARN?
In today’s workshop participants will:
 learn how to connect the Smartboard,
calibrate it, and what various tools are used
for
 design two assessments (a vocabulary
assessment and a group choice) that
replaces a traditional paper/pencil
assessment.
SMARTBOARD BASICS
 What is a SMARTBoard?
The term sm artbo ard usually refers to a specific brand of electronic whiteboard
made by the company SMART Technologies, but the term is increasingly
being used to refer to any brand of electronic whiteboard. Most smartboards
have the same features, allowing users to input data through the use of
plastic pens that contain no ink, the user's hands, a wireless mouse or
pointing device. The software for the smartboard is loaded onto a local
computer or network, where smartboard-compatible software can then be
called upon for use on the screen.

necessary business. During this time please come to the SMARTBoard
and write down any questions you may have at this time.
To do this activity: pick up a pen and write your question below. Please
take turns as only one person can write at a time.

IDEAS
YOUR ASSIGNMENT…
 Today your group will create two assessments. One will be a
vocabulary assessment and one will be a traditional paper and pencil
assessment that can be converted into a SMARTBoard interactive
assessment using the online program, Webspiration.
 Please review the tutorial in your handout for the vocabulary
assignment and complete this assignment first. Then decide on your
traditional assessment that you will covert to interactive using the
same online application.
 Each activity should take no more than 3-5 minutes for the entire
class to complete
 Your group will be determined by grade level and should have no
more than 4 people. If needed, please form more than one group per
grade level or if there are not enough people please join a grade level
close to your own.
 Your group should choose a "teacher" to present your lesson to the
group in the last part of today's workshop.
 Please review the rubrics in your handout to ensure that all
components are covered.
IT’S PRESENTATION
TIME!!!
Groups will be chosen in randomorderto
present theirlessons to the group.
OUR TIME TOGETHER IN
