- Introduce yourself, and tell a little about the Adult Student Center and the Adult Student Center Computer Lab.
- One of the most common problems we see in the Adult Student Center, is a student does not know how to access or cannot access their student email account. Or they do not know how to attach a file.
- Ask students if everyone had checked their email at least once since the semester started. At this point show students how to change their password. Press ctrl alt delete on their computer and select “change password”. Emphasis the importance of student’s checking their email regularly.
- Another frequently asked question that we receive in the ASC is students do not know how to access Blackboard, how to navigate Blackboard. Or even what Blackboard is.
- Blackboard is a web-based e-learning system for giving instructions to students online, as a tool for online interaction between students, and also as an added resource for campus based classes.
- Courses that are available to students
- KCTCS has several great resources available under the student support tab on Blackboard. Student’s that are new to Blackboard or just need a little more information on how to navigate Blackboard. Or just finding out more information about e-learning and what tools are available to them and more. Mention Pro/Con of online classes.
- Make sure students do not close this browser window as we will refer back to the Student Support Tab in the next section.
- PeopleSoft also called Student Self-Service can be used to find out various information about your records and student information.
- Make sure students keep the Black Board window open and open a new tab or window to log into Student Support Services as we will need to refer back to Blackboard Student Support Tab
- Explain that all of these are “how to” videos for student self-service. These videos will show students how to do everything they need to do in student self-service.
- Click the image it will take you to the video page, and play the first video.
- Closing thoughts. Ask student’s if they learned at least one thing they didn’t know before they came. Ask for any final questions and thank everyone for coming.
