2. ABOUT ALUCINE
aluCine is the largest Latin short film, video and new media festival in North
America, screening over 200 cutting edge independent short films and videos of
all genres: fiction, experimental, video art, animation, documentaries and
installations. In Canada, our mission is to showcase the work of emerging and
established Latin artists living in Canada, the USA, Europe and Latin America
through our festival and cultural activities.
Internationally, aluCine is committed to continue disseminating the work of Latin
and Canadian media artists by organizing touring exhibitions in Latin America.
Our commitment with this mission has inspired us to offer free video , sound
and lighting workshops to members of the Latin and non-Latin youth
community, who do not have access to production centers due to language and
financial barriers
aluCine is a model of complex and flexible development combining the
organization of a culturally specific festival that questions the barriers of
discrimination and non-representation that our community face with an
international festival that showcases the best short films/videos in all genres, as
well as disseminating a high percentage of experimental Latino and non Latino-
a Canadian film/video works in Latin America, creating a North –South dialogue
within the continent.
3. HISTORY OF ALUCINE
Since its origins, aluCine is and has been run by Latina-o artists who show their
work nationally and internationally and who are a vital part of the ever-changing
independent art scene breaking down barriers on cultural and conceptual
specificities.
aluCine aims to create platforms of communication that foster dialogue amongst
film/video and media artists, curators and audiences in Canada, Latin America
and the world. aluCine is not a clear-cut, homogenous festival that hopes to
represent just one voice, but a multiplicity of voices, visions and genres. Our
programming combines the creative strength and the diverse aesthetic,
conceptual, political and sexual preferences of First Nations, European, African,
Asian, Jewish and Mestizo heritages and cultures encouraging critical thinking
and public understanding of inclusion and diversity in media arts.
Our support to the Latino-a artists community is an essential part in our
programming. We are proud to invite you to visit the list of Latino-a and
Canadian artists in general who had participated in aluCine since 1994.
This support grows parallel to the number, quality and depth of the film/ video/
installations/ new media works produced by our community.

6. ALUCINE PRE–EVENTS
aluCine offers a variety of cocktails, parties, press
conferences, working breakfasts, lunches and dinners with
national and international guests, filmmakers, producers, jury
members and audience. Be the host of one of them and take
