BUILDING SURVEYOR
James is a highly motivated, ambitious, well organised employee who is
continually looking to improve in all areas of his profession. In his most

While at Jacobs James has worked on a number of project and contracts,

Scope/Description:
Providing planned and unplanned maintenance to over 100 different
properties managed by NYCC, for example schools, elderly people’s
homes, libraries, farms, offices and children’s centres. Other elements of
the contract include annual condition surveys, building surveys, asbestos
monitoring, schedule of dilapidations, and regular meetings with
contractors and the client.
Responsibilities:
Within this role James’s main responsibilities include:
Acting as project officer and contracts administrator for planned projects
which including new builds, refurbishments, extensions and demolitions.
The role involves:
- Producing feasibility studies.
- Determining project budgets.
- Architectural detailed design.
- Writing prelims, specifications and schedules of work.
- Preparing pre-construction information.
- Regular formal meetings with the client, contractors, and site.
- Asbestos works and providing advice to the client.
- Reviewing Health and Safety documents in accordance with CDM2015.
- Reviewing and signing off contractor’s construction phase plans.
- Planning Applications.
- Building Regulations Applications.
- Managing Project Budgets.
On a day to day basis James is responsible for unplanned maintenance
which includes but not limited to:
- Communicating with sites and contractors.
- Raising orders to contractors, including asbestos works.
- Inspecting defects on site and determining solutions.

Scope/Description:
Planned maintenance projects on residential and health service
buildings. The projects were for a potential new long term client,
therefore there was a lot of pressure to provide the highest quality
service, to try and attract more business. All work to date has been
completed under budget and ahead of schedule.

Responsibilities:
James is responsible for compiling and negotiating standalone project
fees with the client, creating the full tender package for the works
including prelims, schedule of works, and PCI. Further responsibilities
include communicating with the client, contractors, and site
representatives, chairing meetings, and allocating hours and managing
employee’s time to ensure the project remains on budget. James also
acts as project officer and contracts administrator during the works as
well as snagging all defects prior to handover.

Title: Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Start/End Dates: September 2012 – August 2013
Scope/Description:
The construction projects included demolitions, refurbishments, new
builds and extensions. Walter Thompson were the contractor, and were
responsible for the works on site and ensuring the end product met the
clients requirements.
Responsibilities:
During this time James responsibilities included, but not limited to:
- Assisting with final accounts and negotiating with the client and
subcontractors.
- Preparing and reviewing bill of quantities and other tender and contract
documents.
- Measuring the productivity of the operatives on site and calculating
whether they were making the company profit or loss.
- Carrying out snagging to works done by many different disciplines.
- Informal and formal meetings with subcontractors and clients.
