1. The public relations media major is one of the four media majors
here at Oral Roberts University. Students develop many skills in
production of materials through television, radio, film, web and
journalism. These skills learned will provide the foundation for
graduates to build lifelong skills in their career.
As Professor of Drama and Chair of the Communication, Arts
and Media Department, Dr. Laura Holland has had the ability to
work with students at Oral Roberts University since 1974 when
she graduated with a B.S. “Our degree is special because of all
the hands on that you get on every level in the degree program.
“ You have to have true love for others because the whole job in
PR is to continuously improve the Art of building mutually bene-
ficial relationships. Be prepared to work hard,” said Alumni, Judi
Nation a B.S. and M.MGT in public relations and advertising.
She currently works as a professor and project manager at ORU
public relations department.
The public relations concentration also provides a base for a wide
range of vocational experiences in media and being able to focus
on production, direction and management preparing students for
graduate study.
“PR majors not just sits in the class setting, you get to meet peo-
ple, you get a lot of hands on experience throughout the major”
Destinee Thames.
Public Relations major’s get Internships in Firms, Agencies,
Nonprofits, Religious Organizations and more. They also get the
skills and talent for a job interview. As a Public Relationships Me-
dia major there are many opportunities to help a student become
successful. Students can join Student Associations like the Public
Relationships Student Society of America, which also provides in-
dividual scholarships for students.
“This is a fun way to make a living for those who like to build
relationships with others. I encourage them to building their skills
while in school. Through these experiences, faculty members are
grooming them for the field, not just making them jump through
hoops for a grade,” said Assistant Professor of Communication,
Art & Media Chris Putman.
The public relations degree at Oral Roberts University allows
students to develop into a well-rounded person. The experienc-
es gained at ORU lead to successful jobs in communication, me-
dia management, brand management, event planning, and feature
writing and investor relations. At Oral Roberts University PR ma-
jors as well as the entire student body are taught to be on a Quest
for the Whole Person. Mind Body and Spirit!
Christ Putman said, “I always try to explain the field and an aver-
age work day for a PR rep, and then encourage students to look at
their strengths, their ability to connect with people and their heart
and see if it is a good fit”.
