WHY TEACHER NOT RESPECTED BY PUPILS?

Since of late, the student discipline problems are often debated. After one case, another

case arose. Current problems are the problems of students do not respect teachers. The

attitude of the students then and now is much different as "heaven and earth". The question is

why this problem exists now?

Students today do not respect teachers because most teachers do not understand the

needs of the learners themselves. Sometimes we hear the students are not able to respect their

teachers, because teachers could not ignore what they want. For example, teachers could not

careless about the subject that they do not understand, the teacher did not care

about marks or test results that they follow, the teacher being no good instruction and effective,

the teacher cannot answer those question well, teacher always have a job

outside classroom, and much more to be questioned. These things belong to the needs of

students and teachers should be more aware of the problem.

In this case, sometimes teachers are also to blame. Teachers also can be no respect for

the students if they have fines or penalties that are too heavy even for a slight offense

committed. For instance, slapped or kicked teachers of students who just throw garbage in the

classroom. This matter should be prefaced with a reprimand and the warning to the

student first. If students making noise in class, the teacher can reprimand the member

effectively, or even ask the student to apologize or mistakes. Caning can be done

on heavy offense or offenses committed over and over. Teachers themselves are considered
not to respect the students if they did not go to class to teach, but to chat with colleagues or use

the phone too long. At this time the student teacher is critical in assessing whether they need

to respect the teachers who too often ignore their class or otherwise.

Teachers and teaching are important aspects of teaching and learning. Good teachers

can change student’s perception of a subject. If a teacher failed to provide effective instruction,

they will easily get bored in class and started behaving like chat does not respect teachers and

disrupt classes. To change the perceptions of students, teachers need to play the role of the

student's love and more attention in class teaching. Therefore, teachers should always be

proactive and take the initiative to try and increase their skills and produce effective teaching

techniques to attract students, and at the same time meet the needs of the syllabus. According

to Prettyman(1996), creativity is an important teacher in teaching and learning. Deep interest

and enthusiasm in the teachers help students accelerate the process of appreciation. For

example, teachers should not think to learn a subject is a simple matter and let the students

read and understand it. Teachers must have the ability to attract students to comprehend the

events that students can really feel an event. Guidance and encouragement from teachers to

students is important so that students can participate in classroom activities. This view is also

suggested by Mike, who stated that: "... teachers are the decisive element in the

classroom. Teachers posses the power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous. Teachers can

be an instrument of torture to Inspiration or a child's Motivation to learn ``.Teachers should use

various techniques to motivate students while teaching and learning. Teachers play a role as a

"model student" in class. Students are easily controlled if teachers know how to choose

appropriate activities, conduct two-way teaching and learning, understanding the needs of the

individuals in the class and the strengthening of activities based on student ability. According to

(Charles, 1985) teachers should help students in the development of meaningful learning. This
is consistent with Gardner (1986) who argues that students have multiple intelligences that need

to be developed by teachers and practiced by the students.

In the old days parents so close relationship with teachers. They always send

"greetings". Now in this modern age, this condition no longer exists. In the past, parents always

said the teacher was in the right side if they penalize and spank their children. At the present

time the situation is much different. Instead of teachers who are blamed if they fine and caning

students. For parents today, they are more favourable to their children and blame the

teachers. Parents are now more pampering in the days of our children. If there are effects of

red-scratches and abrasions on the body of children, they will immediately attack the school

without checking first.

Growth factors also influence the thinking of the students now. In the past the teacher is

the only source of knowledge compared with modern times this sophisticated. Currently

students can obtain knowledge from other sources. Knowledge can be acquired from various

sources such as from newspapers, television and the latest one is through the internet. So it's

no surprise that at the present time the students about respect for the teachers at school. Some

of them are of the opinion that they are more knowledgeable than the teachers. For this reason

respect for teachers now reduced.

Teachers are increasingly shaky position in today's society is one cause. In the past the

teacher is a profession that is respected by the community. If there is any event in a village

teachers were playing a major role. Former teachers will sit in the front row and hold important
positions in the village. Times have changed. At this time places the teacher in the past have

been taken over by corporate leaders, headman and politicians. This is why respect for the

teachers to be somewhat less.

Teaching profession is a noble profession. But now, is as if viewed as a second

choice. Positions of teachers in society need to be restored flat. In this way alone can bring

awareness to the students to return to respect the teachers.
