competent performance” (Stimson, 2002)

Outlining roles and responsibilities provides job descriptions of what the job is and what is
required of the individual

• Responsible for ensuring the department’s performance and collaboration regarding
the design and development of formal and informal learning solutions using a variety
of methods (ASTD)

Instructional Designer – Kat M.
• Responsible for the design and development of training materials

• Analyzes, selects, and integrates technology options

• Creates assessments monitoring performance

• Evaluates and communicates results
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN TEAM MANAGER

Oversee course development design strategies

Evaluate existing standard operating procedures

Review course content during analysis, design, and development stages for sound
pedagogical and instructional design practices

Identify new, innovative instructional design, technology practices, and provide team training

•

Negotiate contracts with vendors for departmental operations and/or educational resources

Manage communications between instructional design team and evaluations team

•

Coordinate and monitor task distribution, provide mentoring and training, evaluate
performance

•

Manage non-course projects for instructional design team, evaluations team and quality
management team
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN TEAM
Instructional Designer
• Define instructional, learning, or performance objectives
• Design learning products, identify use of web-based aids and electronic performance
support systems
• Design instructional aids in support of stand-alone, instructor-led classroom or online
use
• Present and make recommendations to implement course design, technology, and
instruction delivery options

Instructional Designer / Coordinator / Materials Management
• Order, or authorize purchase of instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and visual
aids
• Organize production and design of curriculum materials
• Research, evaluate, and prepare recommendations on curricula, instructional methods,
and materials
• Ensue security of course content

INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN TEAM MANAGER • Oversee course development design strategies • Evaluate existing standard operating procedures • Review course content during analysis, design, and development stages for sound pedagogical and instructional design practices • Identify new, innovative instructional design, technology practices, and provide team training • Negotiate contracts with vendors for departmental operations and/or educational resources • Manage communications between instructional design team and evaluations team • Coordinate and monitor task distribution, provide mentoring and training, evaluate performance • Manage non-course projects for instructional design team, evaluations team and quality management team

INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN TEAM Instructional Designer • Define instructional, learning, or performance objectives • Design learning products, identify use of web-based aids and electronic performance support systems • Design instructional aids in support of stand-alone, instructor-led classroom or online use • Present and make recommendations to implement course design, technology, and instruction delivery options Instructional Designer / Coordinator / Materials Management • Order, or authorize purchase of instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and visual aids • Organize production and design of curriculum materials • Research, evaluate, and prepare recommendations on curricula, instructional methods, and materials • Ensue security of course content
