Customers are able to assess your information at any time, anywhere, so why would you not want to be a part of it and have the opportunity to tell your customers exactly what you want them to hear? The major social networks in social media are growing by the second... For photos its Flickr – worth billions For videos, its Youtube – worth billions Social networking for the younger set starts with Myspace – an original For social networking for the growing and grown set, its facebook – worth billions To get connected and network with the business set its linkedIn For individual expression there is weblogs and blogs If you want to say a few words there’s micro-blogging and interconnecting – also known as Twitter – worth billions For chronologging its Wikipedia – worth billions And of course there are your personal website and business website – Priceless.
Social media sites that you can use? The range is endless, but the main focus at present is on these five sites: Facebook Twitter Myspace LinkedIn YouTube Also available: StumbleUpon Delicious Blogger FourSquare Plus many others up and coming
“Facebook is a social network that connects people personally and professionally through connections, messages, photos, & videos.” Photo Credit: Marvin Kuo
Facebook for the Bitton Business Facebook, I see as serving 4 main purposes for us: 1. A way we can communicate with customers outside of the cafe 2. A way to remind customers and remain in their minds 3. Another way that our customers can contact us and find out about what is going on at Bitton 4. Facebook also allows us to interact with our customers and create a sense of a relationship, creating a direct link and stronger loyalty. 500 Million people are on Facebook. But the amazing part, 50% of those users logon to Facebook any given day!!!
This shows how you can link web reviews to our Facebook page. Facebook is advanced enough that is shows the link in a brief format. It also shows the feedback that we have had from ‘fans’ 3 fans like this, and above one comment. One customer saw this status and came to the cafe because she new that we were open
Write blogs and increase information about you and your products so that you are constantly giving fans reasons to look and retain their attention. This particular blog is a link to our website and shows a video of David on Sydney Weekender. The alternative is to add the link directly to Facebook which we did afterwards; This way your fans visit your website and view the video. Another status with Fan comments Below you can see the comments left by people and the ‘likes’. This allows you to gauge what interests your fans
We also added the video to Facebook directly, so that it is on Facebook permanently for fans to find. If we just left it on the wall feed, it would go off the front screen and be impossible to find in weeks or months time, as we add more information
Main points to really remember about social media sites is these 3 key factors: ,[object Object]
Personalise
Relationships,[object Object]
Twitter for Bitton Start tweeting on Twitter How Twitter works: Twitter is a very simple process. All that is required is that you type something, anything you like that is to a maximum of 140 characters – which is more difficult than it sounds. Why is it only 140 characters? Simple really, the people that created Twitter created it on the same amount of characters that you were able to use on a mobile phone when text messaging, so they decided to stick to that!
This is our Bitton branded site, with the constant stream of tweets in the home section
This is our profile page, which records all of your tweets
This is TweetDeck First column is constantly rolling which is what people that you are following are tweeting Second column is the mentions column (not available on Twitter) Third column is Direct messages that only you can see and the person that you have sent it to. Great way of initially contacting someone Final column can be a group that you want to follow like Sydney ‘restaurant scene’ for example
Our best example of Twitter working for Bitton was this.... One small Tweet on Twitter lead to one giant web review with 45 people commenting on it.
What we have tried but don’t really see any benefit for us... Delicious, StumbleUpon, Google As you can see the options are endless! But they are not all relevant to your business
Website Blog and What’s On Page
Social Media is taking over...you have to be there...but its not everything It is important we feel that you do need to have a presence on social media in some way is it is now how your customers want to be able to contact you. It is also how they can give you feedback It creates a feeling of belonging therefore creating loyalty with your customers And finally, what better way is there for you to communicate with them – for free! Social media has been termed as the new PR – people are online more than they are reading newspapers If your not present, your invisible.
