Good eveningeveryone andwelcometoScrapbookingwithJess.Myname isJessicaCavaliere andIam a
page for the library.I have beenscrapbookingforclose totenyearsandstartedto reallygetintoitafter
takinga scrapbookingclassthroughMichael’sCraftStore inJanuary2006.
I’ve made scrapbookyearbookswhenI wasa studentinUpper Merionand people alwayslovedsigning
those scrapbooks.Forme,it wasa more personal waytohighlighta school year.I’ve scrapbooked
everythingfromvacationstoGreenBayPackersgamesand oftenmake friendsandfamiliesscrapbooks
for birthdaysandholidays.Everyone lovesreceivingmyscrapbooksasgifts.
Tonight,I’ll be showingthe basicsof scrapbookingandhow toplace pictures,embellishments,and
stickersinaestheticallypleasingplaces.The three differentactivitiesIhave plannedforthiseveningare
scrapbookyearbooks,whichisperfectforall age groups.Teensandcollege studentscoulduse these
scrapbookyearbooksatthe end of the school year fortheirfriendstosign.Evenadults,whichcouldbe a
nice projectyoucouldshowyour parents, coulduse these foreventsandgatheringsforreminiscing.The
othertwo activitiesI’ll be showingyouare vacationscrapbooksandeventscrapbookingforeventssuch
as sportingevents,concerts,andwhateverimportanteventyouwill have goingon inyourlife.

I. GENERAL SCRAPBOOKINGTECHNIQUES
a. EquipmentandMaterials
i. Rule andCraft Scissors:these give total control overwhere andhow youcut.
ii. Decorative-edgedScissors:usedsparingly,these adda fancytouch to matsand
trims,HOWEVER DO NOTUSE THESE ON PHOTOGRAPHS!
iii. Templates:awide range of lightweighttemplatesprovidedifferentcropping
options,andare easyto store.Use a pencil totrace a shape ona photographor
paper,thencut.
iv. Punches:simple smallshapeslookstrikingwhenpunchedincolouredcard.
Larger shapescan alsobe usedto cut out the importantpart of a photograph.
b. Adhesives
i. Glue sticks:cheapand easywayto stick lightitemstopaperandphotographs.
ii. Spray:allowsforsomethingthatisstuckdownto be peeledoff andthen
reapplied.Sprayoutside orinwell-ventilatedarea.
iii. Foam pads:can be usedtoraise an elementonalayout.
iv. Glue dotsand glue lines:the cleanestwayof applyingpicturestoascrapbook.
Alsodoesn’truinpictureswithage.
v. Double sidedtape:like gluedots.
vi. PVA (white) glue: Will holdeverything,including3-Ditemssuchas fasteners,
shells,orcharms.
vii. Stickers:bothdecorative andhelpful…itcanbe useful topositionapicture into
place.

e. ChoosingColours
i. The backgroundshouldflatterthe photographsratherthanoverpowerthem
and itsstyle needstobe inkeepingwiththe subjectmatter.
ii. ComplementaryColours:allow the photographstodictate yourchoice of
backgroundcolours,ratherthan choosingthe paperandyou’re prayingthatthe
pictureswill matchit.Holdphotosagainsta wide arrayof differentcolours.
iii. Monochrome Schemes:Restrictcoloursbyusingapatternthat onlyusessingle
colour.
iv. CombiningPatternedPapers
v. BoldPatterns:some patternedpapersare boldanddramatic,but won’t
overwhelmphotographsif theyare pairedwithstrongimagesorcolours.Close
upsof facesor objectsworkthe best.
