Aliyah Statistics – January – June 2010
This analysis relates to olim who have come to Israel under the care of the Aliyah and Absorption Department of
the Jewish Agency.
During January to June 2010, 6,267 olim arrived. This is a 13% increase over the same period last year (5,549) not
including olim from Ethiopia (40% including Ethiopian olim). The total number of olim during this period was
7,436, an increase of 32% over the same period last year (5,643 olim).

FSU, Germany and Eastern Europe
During January – June 2010, 3,038 olim arrived from this geographic domain, in comparison with 2,599 in January
– June 2009, an increase of 17%.

     2,880 olim arrived from the FSU (39% of all olim during this period). This is a 16% increase over last year.
     The majority of olim from the FSU are from Russia, totaling 1,440 (a 22% increase over last year)
     680 olim arrived from the Ukraine (a 27% increase over last year).
     From South Caucasus 243 olim arrived (a 4% increase from last year).
     During January – June 2010, 55 olim arrived from Germany, the same number as this period last year..
     103 olim arrived from Eastern Europe, as opposed to last year when 63 arrived. This is an increase of 63%
     over this period last year. The largest number of these olim came from Hungary (55).

English Speaking Countries
During January – June 2010, 1,646 olim arrived from this geographic domain. This is an increase of 7% since the
same period in 2009.

     From North America 1,121 olim came, as compared to 1,106 during this period last year, an increase of 11%.
     From Great Britain 241 olim arrived, as compared to 265 last year, a decrease of 9% over this period last year.
     98 olim arrived from South Africa, as compared to 115 last year, a decrease of 15%.
     118 olim arrived from Oceana, as compared to 79 last year, an increase of 49%.

Europe and Middle East
A total of 1,007 olim arrived from this geographic domain during January – June 2010, as compared to 894 last
year, an increase of 13% over the same period last year.

     During this period, 690 olim arrived from France, as opposed to 647 last year. This is an increase of 7%
     87 olim arrived from Belgium, as compared to 64 last year, an increase of 36%.
     51 olim arrived from Turkey, as compared to 72 last year, a decrease of 29%
     59 olim arrived from Middle East countries, as compared to 50 last year, an increase of 18%

Latin America
576 olim arrived from this geographic domain during January – June 2010, as compared to 519 last year, an
increase of 11%.

     153 olim came from Argentina, as compared to 122 last year, an increase of 25%
     115 olim arrived from Brazil, as compared to 120 during this period last year, a decrease of 4%.

Ethiopia
During January- June 2010 1,169 olim arrived from Ethiopia. During this period last year only 94 olim arrived.
During 2009 a total of only 240 olim arrived due the decision of the Israeli government to halt the aliyah from
Ethiopia.
