Evaluation Activity, Question 2
-85725833120How does your media product represent particular social groups?
-12382535560
I have chosen to compare one of our characters in our opening to the girl from “The Ring” (2002). In terms of appearance they are similar in the way that they both have dark hair and are young female characters starring in a film; their roles within each film are important as they are the stars. Their costumes are both quite plain and ordinary so as not to distract the attention of viewers away from the main acting and plot line. They share familiar characteristics within the film as they are both the young darker characters who plot evil things and make dire wicked things happen.
Some differences are that one of the characters hair is much longer than the others, which helps her to hide her face and appear more mysterious and sinister. The girl from ‘The Ring’ is dead but has come back from the past; she’s trying to tell the story of her death and to avail her killer. The storylines are completely different even though the characters look very much alike and have similar characteristics.
Gender is not represented stereotypically in both of these movies, as young girls are stereotypically innocent, kind and loving whereas both of these girls are the complete opposite. Their age is also represented in an unconventional way; villains or darker characters in films are usually much older and predominantly male. As both of the main characters are young sexuality is not represented as it is not necessary.
J’Nae Phillips
