2. What is the style and tone?
The style of my magazine will be concentrating on a sort of rap and R&B type of music magazine.
I believe these two genres of music will assimilate well together and portray a good music
magazine. I will integrate some ideas from the ‘VIBE’ magazine I have previously analysed to
ensure my magazine is at the highest standard. The style must be a modern style so it can attract
the target audience of a younger generation as this is the age-range I am attempting to target. I
will try and avoid using bright, fluorescent colours as it doesn’t integrate with the genre of music
I am doing. Therefore the colours will have to be more bland; darker colours would be necessary.
My writing style will assume that the reader knows about the artists I am portraying, expecting
they should know the knowledge as it is their type of magazine. I will also aim it at a male
audience which means using words which will indicate and attract a male audience and male
dominance. I will also aim use a consistent amount of fonts and tones for my magazine to ensure
it maintains a high standard of production.
3. How will it fit with the existing
publications?
As I have discussed before, I will be integrating my ideas of the type of magazine I wish to create
with the magazine ‘VIBE’ as this is a good example of the type of magazine genre I wish to
portray. The music magazine Vibe is a good analysis of the magazine I want to make myself as it
fits the genre well I wish to portray. The style, tone and layout of the magazine Vibe is how I wish
to make my music magazine. The stories I wish to integrate into my music magazine would
normally be represented in the music magazine Vibe and would be convenient to incorporate
into my magazine.
4. Target Audience and Client Profile?
I believe the target audience for my magazine is definitely teenagers and perhaps people in their
20’s. My type if music will fit in well with the type of music teenagers like. As my magazine is
aimed at sort of hip-hop/rap it will certainly attract more to a younger audience as older people
would not find this type of music appealing. The gender I am aiming my magazine is mainly
male. Rap and Hip-hop has often been male-dominant (especially in rap) and even often
portrays counts of sexism in songs and raps. Headlines portrayed in the magazine Vibe is often
targeted for the male gender as they relate to male artists and ask rhetorical questions only men
could answer. My magazine will be price-ranged at about £3.99; I believe this is a sufficient price
for a music magazine in this type of genre, and also due to the fact that my target audience is
reasonable young, they may not be willing to pay as much money for a product, as they may not
have as much money.
5. How will it appeal to my audience?
I will believe that my music magazine will appeal greatly to my target audience, assuming they
enjoy this genre of music. It will appeal to them as I will portray stories and artists that will
attract my target audience and encourage them to buy it. I will also invent good headlines and
an appealing masthead which will appeal to the audience and encourage them to purchase my
music magazine. It is also important my target audience to portray stories that my target
audience would enjoy and also write these stories in a way that would appeal to them.
6. Which magazine have the most
relevance to my magazine?
As I have analysed the music magazine ‘VIBE’, I believe this magazine emulates my magazine
best as it targets the same genres and audience as I intend. I believe that Vibe is the best
interpretation of my music magazine because it bares the same genre as my magazine and will
also portray the same type of stories as my magazine. Both magazines are also assumable
targeting the same age-range and the same type of audience as my magazine by portraying
similar headlines and stories.
