2. Introduction
John Guandolo has become an expert on fighting
terrorism, serving in the FBI's counter-terrorism unit. The

Guandolo also served in the armed forces during Operation
Desert Storm as a freefall parachutist and a jumpmaster.
As one of the people responsible for safety during airborne
operations, jumpmasters must have made at least 12 jumps
out of a high-performing aircraft. They can be a non-
commissioned officer (corporal or higher), a commissioned
or a warrant officer, with usually about a year on jump
status. Leadership experience at the squad or platoon level
is desirable.
3. Jumpmaster
Jumpmaster training school lasts about two weeks. The
curriculum includes technical information and proper use
and inspection of each paratrooper's equipment. Other
subjects include preventing injuries and leaving the aircraft
safely.
Before becoming full-fledged jumpmasters, candidates
must serve as assistants, handling the static lines. After
demonstrating their proficiency in that function, they can
issue the jump command as a primary jumpmaster.
Jumpmasters have a leadership function after the jump as
well. They make certain that all jumpers are accounted for
and have all their equipment.
