Good morning/afternoon and thank you for taking time to attend this sessionMy name is <Pierre Leroux> from the SAP Business Analytics team in the next half-hour I will introduce you to our BI cloud solution: SAP BusinessObjects BI OnDemand, and more specifically how you can benefit from it when dealing with the wealth of information you are collecting and storing either in spreadsheets and other personal repositories and as well as corporate data sources like Salesforce Cloud.
There are several mega trends affecting the business world and transforming how you will conduct business tomorrow! Things like the smart phone e and tablet revolution, the social enterprise, etc but I want to bring your attention to one that is the most relevant for the topic today: The Cloud revolution. Across the globe, more and more companies are deciding to forego on-premise IT infrastructure and systems and simply get the same benefits but without the up-front investments from providers like Amazon, like Salesforce, like AT&T, etc. This is not necessarily a recent trend, but it has accelerated to the point where the research firm Forrester has estimated that the global cloud market will reach 241 billions in 2012.<OPTIONAL>Mass adoption of mobile devices… 70% of China’s Internet users use a handset over a PC – this has a massive impact on the way we will conduct our business. Exponential growth of information. It is estimated that 4 EXABYTES of unique information will be generated this year. That is more than the previous 5,000 years; that’s 1 million terabytes…Heightened risk and increasing compliance regulations. There are 1000’s of regulations companies are faced with and it continues to grow. It is an alphabet soup of IFRS, XBRL, and other regulationViral adoption of social media with over 750 millions users; are you prepared to leverage this information; Organizations are faced with pressures to operate with less resources in a less than optimal global economy Growth of cloud computing: According to a Forrester report, the global cloud market is estimated to be $241 Billion by 2012.
So what is it that companies are finding appealing about using software solutions in the cloud? The research firm IDC has conducted a cloud survey and found out that the top 3 primary drivers are (in order of importance):1- Pay for what you use2- Easy and fast to deploy3- Pay as you goSo you can see here that we have two clear drivers: 1- Flexibility around how people consume and pay for software licenses and 2- time to value or if you prefer how fast it is before business users can start using the application.
On the flip side, companies have concerns when considering using public cloudsThe IDC cloud survey found that the top 3 concerns are (in order of importance):1- Security – which I will address later2- Cost over time vs. the traditional perpetual license cost3- Integration with in-house IT infrastructure and systemsSo you can see here that we have two clear drivers: 1- Flexibility around how people consume and pay for software licenses and 2- time to value or if you prefer how fast it is before business users can start using the application.
To address these different questions, organizations can choose different strategies and invest in different BI technologies available today. In many cases, a cloud solution like SAP BusinessObjects BI OnDemand can be an excellent and very fast starting point for small companies only using spreadsheets or all the way to very large organizations wanting to extend BI without having to overhaul their BI infrastructure.BIOnDemand is a complete BI solution that allows business users to explore and report against personal and corporate data sources and share the information on a secure platform available “in the cloud”. The goal is to immediatelyempower all users (executives, analysts, staff, suppliers, and partners) so they can make better-informed choices and decisions.BI OnDemand is an solution with an intuitive and easy interface, one where business users don’t have to be data analysts to use the data they currently have and quickly find an answer by just pointing and clicking on areas of interest. But SAP BusinessObjects BI OnDemand is also powerful so it allows you to prepare and format information in a more traditional way, with consistent graphics and tables with Crystal Reports. It allows you to design and deliver performance metrics in the form of dashboardsAnd it’s turnkey, meaning that you don’t need to physically deploy a BI system in-house. You get immediate access to a large scale, state-of-the-art infrastructure and can be running quickly and continue focusing on your business instead of being distracted by an in-house BI implementation project.
So let’s look at what are the things you will do and perform with SAP BusinessObjects BI OnDemand:With BI OnDemand, everything you do will fall in one of three action types:You can access Data, whether is personal data sets like Excel spreadsheets or corporate data sources like databasesYou will use BI OnDemand to ‘visualize’ your business, meaning that you will be able to use a combination of Crystal reports, dashboards and visualizations (i.e. Explorer) to really know about your customers and your business. You will share that information with different people. The great thing about sharing information using BI OnDemand is that you can make the group with who you share a particular report of dashboard, as big or as small as you want. You also have a number of different means to share it with the right people. So let’s review each one into more details starting with Accessing Your Data.
With SAP BI OnDemand, You will be able to upload existing data in the form of spreadsheets, csv and txt files, meaning that your data will now live as a data set within the BI OnDemand environment. You will also be able to upload existing Crystal reports and dashboardsYou will be able to connect to data sources either cloud data source like Salesforce.com and on-premise data sources using web servicesYou would also be able to combine multiple sources without having to use any coding of sql statements.
Now while we are talking about accessing your data in the cloud, let me address one of the major concerns people have when considering or using cloud solutions: Is my data secure? It’s a legitimate concern and one that we keep hearing and that we will continue hearing for a while I think. This concern can be addressed at two levels:What the cloud industry is doingWhat have we specifically done at SAP to make your data as secure as possibleOn the first point, cloud-based providers have evolved and are offering the type of secure data centers that only a handful of very large IT organizations can afford. And in general, cloud-based providers provides far more secure data centers than the typical IT organization. And since managing large, highly scalable and resilient data centers is part of these providers’ core value proposition, they are also likely to be better prepared to handle disaster recovery.
What have we specifically done at SAP to make your data as secure as possible. We have a world-class data facility located in the Continental US. It has all the kinds of systems and process you would expect: Cutting edge protection systems like multiple firewalls, intrusion detection systems, network address translation, port redirection, IP masquerading, non-routable IP addressing schemes etc.We comply with the SAS 70 type II standards which means that we’ve been through an independent and in-depth audit of our controls and safeguards when we host or process data belonging to our customers. We have encryption at all levels of data management including 128-bit VeriSign SSL encryption between our data center and the userFinally we have 24/7 system monitoring and backup and disaster recovery plan and all kind of redundant systems to mitigate down time and issues that would affect system availability
You will use BI OnDemand to ‘visualize’ your business, meaning that you will be able to access your data and use it to really know about your customers and your business. How? There’s typically three scenarios. Many of our customers are using BI OnDemand by creating more traditional, highly formatted Crystal reports using the Crystal desktop tool and then publishing them on BI OnDemand. The can then control who has access to these reports and also schedule them on a given schedule. You can create interactive dashboards to monitor the performance of your business or monitor something important to you or your department. There’s two ways of creating dashboards. You can create Xcelsiusdasboards and upload them into BI OnDemand or you can create your dashboards using the BI OnDemand capabilities and I’ll show you how easy it is a little later. The third scenario is likely the most compelling for many business users. It’s a very simple too and require no technical skills whatsoever. If You know how to use Excel, this should be very easy for you. You essentially load your data into BI OnDemand, you launch the Explorer app and start navigating your data. It’s that simple and I’ll demo it to you a little bit later.
Now if you have never seen our Explorer solution before, here a sample of what it looks like. At the top, you have all your data, the data is organized in column just your would in Excel. The bottom part is where the data crunching happens. It’s essentially a visual representation: a pie chart, a bar graph, a heat map of the columns and data you’ve selected in the top half. <I’ll show you in a moment>.
You will use BI OnDemand to visualize your data but almost as important is the notion that you can share it with other people – which is something often overlooked. With BI OnDemand, you can share the content like reports and dashboards, but also just as easy, you can share the data set itself, not by copying it or reloading it a 2nd time in BI OnDemand, but rather by just managing the permissions, meaning who can use it and work with the data.I have mentioned that you can schedule and publish Crystal reports and that’s a very efficient large-scale sharing mechanism. The great thing about sharing information using BI OnDemand is that you can make the group with who you share a particular report of dashboard, as big or as small as you want.
The iPad has changed the mobile analytics game. Not only did it create an entire new category (the tablet), but it simply a superior experience when it comes to interacting with information. With BI OnDemand you can use iPads (and Iphones) to visualize, explore and interact with your data sets. You simply point your iPad and iPhone to the Biondemand servers, enter your users credentials, and start exploring your data set.
This is an example of the iPad app for BI OnDemand.BI OnDemand on the iPad is almost identical to the experience you would get using your browser on your laptop, but combined with the hand gestures specific to the iPad, the Apple tablet really shines for data exploration and visualizations and makes it for a really, really easy user experience.
We currently have three versions of BI OnDemand. We have the personal edition, which is free; You can try it with your own data right now and keep using it forever if you want.We have the Essential Edition. This is your starting point for your team, your department, your entire organization, It includes all the BI capabilities discussed earlier today and also offer the ability to secure your data sets and content. Finally, we have the Advanced Edition, which differs from the Essential edition on two very important points:This edition is the one powered by HANA, which is the SAP in-memory technology that accelerates insight into your data, because the data is not on disk, it’s in memory which is hundreds times faster that spinning hard drives. This edition is also the one suitable for any company who would like to provide access to tailored data mart or data warehouse; so instead of having your database in-house, we host it in-memory and you get access using BI OnDemand.Additional scenario for enterprises interested in expanding an existing on-premise BusinessObjects deployment by allowing BI OnDemand to connect to existing universes and leveraging some of the corporate BI investments. Connected user (same licensed named user of BOE/Edge): $26.65/user/month
Now, I have mentioned HANA but I want to spend a little more time on this, because in-memory in the cloud is truly a innovation that you have not seen elsewhere. Using groundbreaking in-memory hardware and software, we can manage data at massive scale, analyze it at amazing speed, and give the business instant access to your information and analysis an now we offer that in the cloud.SAP BusinessObjects BI OnDemand, powered by SAP HANA, can be implemented quickly as detailed data can be imported rapidly. With in-memory computing technology, SAP HANA performs analysis on the fly, without the need to define rigid data models and aggregations ahead of time. The solution provides lower cost of implementation and ownership, as customers do not need to invest in designing workarounds to improve reporting performance. As customers’ data grows, they can continue to add more reporting scenarios easily without significant investment in IT. The SAP BusinessObjects BI OnDemand powered by HANA enables customers to get up and running in minutes to support massive amounts of data; it allows companies to rapidly analyze large volumes of information residing in on-demand applications, giving a complete view of the sales pipeline, which can be shared securely.
If you are currently using Salesforce cloud application, you probably have had great experience managing your sales, your customer support and even executing your marketing campaigns, but you probably have encountered a number of frustrations. Things like Limited visibility into your sales pipelineNo ability to trend or view historical comparisons in SalesforceSalesforce and your other applications are disconnected islands of informationIt’s manual and time consuming to create or modify Salesforce reportsSimply visualizing the data is a time-intensive effortIf these problems sound familiar, you are not alone and BI OnDemand is a great solution for companies like yours looking for a better, more complete sales management analysis solution. A solution that will allow you to provide faster and more professional reporting. A solution that will allow you to visualize historical data and sport trends. And even provide a complete picture of your sales effort by combining other data with SalesForce data.
There is no better Cloud BI solution for Saleforce today than BI OnDemand and we’ve had a fantastic track record of successful Salesforce customer implementation over the last 5 years. Typically, we see customers going for one of the following scenarios:In the first one, BI OnDemand is integrated directly into the Salesforce solution, and appears as one of the tabs. Users sign up using their Salesforce credentials and have access their Salesforce data. BI OnDemand gives them a far more sophisticated reporting capabilities than what is provided in the Salesforce app, it also give users the ability to explore their Salesforce data, another huge advantageIn the second scenario, the one we call Advanced, it gives customers the same capabilities, but instead of directly going against the Salesforce data, we’ve created a turnkey data mart where we load your Salesforce data and allows you to do more sophisticated ad hoc analysis. You can also bring additional data and combined both for a better, more complete view of your company’s sales, marketing and customer service. It also allows you to share the data and your reports and analyses with other people, people who don’t necessarily have access to the Salesforce application.WHY Salesforce and BI OnDemand together?Informed, confident decision-making with easier exploration, reporting, and sharing of Salesforce dataImproved ROI on Salesforce with flexible, robust reportingShort ramp-up via an intuitive user interfaceTime savings with self-service BITrack record of customer success
