1. Task 3 – Graphical Types, Jordan Smith
Pixel Art
Definition - Image filters (such as blurring or alpha-blending) or tools with automatic anti-
aliasing are considerednot valid tools for pixel art, as such tools calculate new pixel values
automatically, contrasting with the precise manual arrangement of pixels associated with
pixel art.
The basic form of dithering, using two colors in a 2×2 checkerboard pattern. Changing
the density of each color will lead to different sub tones.
Stylized dithering with 2×2 pixel squares randomly scattered can produce interesting
textures. Small circles are also frequent.
Anti-aliasing can be done, by hand, to smooth curves and transitions. Some artists only
do this internally, to keep crisp outlines that can go over any background. The PNGalpha
channel can be used to create external anti-aliasing for any background.
One of the most popular games present is Minecraft, it shows almost all of the features above
and is extremely fun to play for creating buildings, objects and other imaginative things.
2. Concept Art
Definition - A concept artist is an individual who generates a visual design for an item,
character, or area that does not yet exist. This includes, but is not limited to, film production,
animation production and more recently video game production. A concept artist may be
required for nothing more than preliminary artwork, or may be required to be part of a
creative team until a project reaches fruition. While it is necessary to have the skills of a fine
artist, a concept artist must also be able to work to strict deadlines in the capacity of a graphic
designer. Some concept artists may start as fine artists, industrial designers, animators, or
even special effects artists. Interpretation of ideas and how they are realized is where the
concept artist's individual creativity is most evident, as subject matter is often beyond their
control.
Themes
The two most widely covered themes in concept art are science fiction and fantasy. Concept
art has always had to cover many subjects, being the primary medium in film poster design
since the early days of Hollywood, however, since the recent rise of concept art used in video
game production concept art has expanded to cover genres from football to the Mafia and
beyond.
3. Texture Art
Definition:Texture, another element of art, is used to describe either the way a three-dimensional
work actually feels when touched, or the visual "feel" of a two-dimensional work. Take rocks, for
example. A real, 3-D rock might feel rough or smooth, and definitely feels hard when touched or
picked up. A painter, depicting a rock, would create the illusions of these qualities through use of
colour, line, shape, etc.
Examples:
Texture is one of the most fundamental elements of three dimensional art. It is an element
that needs to be carefully considered by sculptors. Texture is related to the material used--
marble, wood, clay, bronze, brass, iron. steel, or plaster, for example-- as well as the process:
casting, carving, construction, or welding. In addition to the material and the process, the
final surface treatment offers even more textural possibilities. These include pagination
(chemically altering the surface of metal), painting, staining, bleaching, varnishing, polishing,
waxing, sanding, buffing, scorching, tapping the surface with various tools to add texture, and
using a grinder to smooth out rough textures and welding seams, among other things.
Background Graphics
If you want to add a background image instead of a plain color there are some
considerations you should make before doing so:Is the background image discrete enough to
not take away the focus from what's written on it? Will the background image work with the text
colors and link colors I set up for the page? Will the background image work with the other images I
want to put on the page? How long will the page take to load my background image? Is it simply too
big? Will the background image work when it is copied to fill the entire page?
In all screen resolutions? After answering these questions, if you still want to add the background
image you will need to specify in the <body> tag which image should be used for the background.
4. Print Media Art
Definition: "Media art" refers to artworks that depend on a technological component to
function. The term "media" applies to any communication device used to transmit and store
information. By incorporating emerging technologies into their artworks, artists using new
media are constantly redefining the traditional categories of art.
Over the years, numerous artistic disciplines have fallen under the umbrella of "media art",
including:
Biotech Art, Computer Art, Digital Art, Electronic Art, Interactive Art, Kinetic Art,
Multimedia Art, Network Art, Robotic Art, Sound Art, Space Art, Technological Art, Video
Art, Web Art.
History
Experimentation with audio and visual technologies in art dates back to the 19th century. As
new technologies have emerged, artists have integrated photography, film, radio, television,
computers and the Internet into their artistic practices. Created during diverse historical
periods, the components of the artworks illustrate an integral aspect of our relationship with
technology and its evolution.
