MY ADVENTURE IN CUBA
Hello everyone, this is a short summary about my trip in Cuba that I made two years ago where I spent the New Year.
At the suggestion for this trip, I bought some water bottles, lipsticks, candy and two perfumes extras, clear I carried as two suitcases, besides our passports.
Our plane took off at 9 am from the international airport of Mexico and landed to Cuba three hours later. We went immediately to the customs and the customs broker asked us for our passports, and some questions like: what is the reason for our visit? How long we would be in Cuba? Where we would be lodged? Then we went for healing.
After we changed our peso for the Cuban peso and we got a surprise, the exchange rate was a little higher than us because they handle two types of peso: the Cuban peso for foreigners and for the residents of Cuba, the value was between the dollar and the real, can you believe it¡.
After our surprise, a van was waiting to take us to the hotel that is situated in the new Havana. In this area you only see foreign people, don’t allow Cubans to be there, unless if they work , in fact they are the luckiest and the best salary in Cuba.
After settling in the hotel, we wanted to eat Cuban typical food, so in the same hotel somebody recommended a place in “The new Havana”, we left in a taxi from there.
To arrive at the restaurant we got another surprise, because it was a house, very nice, all places to eat outside the hotel are clandestine, it’s prohibited by the government. By the way, we ate white rice with beans, roast pork, yuca with mojo. Later we went to know the university of Havana and the fort of the Morro.
The next day, we wanted to know the old Havana and we had taken a bus called Guaguas is the only transport besides taxis.
On “The Guagua” funny thing happened to us, we didn’t know that you need to say ¿who is taking the bus? And somebody said, I will ¡, this is because the Cuban people don’t usually row, they must be formed behind the person who speaks and we didn’t know, so when “The Guagua” arrived and we got on the bus and the people that were waiting got mad, it was embarrassing¡¡.
When we arrived at downtown of Havana old, it was like being in the Fifties by the cars and buildings.
We were quickly identified by the Cubans as Mexican, because we are of few foreigners that liked to socialize with them.
But it is necessary to have taken care of them, because they use to abuse, the reason is because they want that you gives to them many things and is understandable because they don’t have many things, also they want that you will fall in love from them, the reason is they want to leave the country.
Here we knew places as Capitol and we took a mojito in a very traditional place, besides as the Cubans live, for example they use to dance rumba in ballrooms every Sunday in a place called Barrio of Jamel, really they have music inside, and they can make celebration at any time and different places.
In this part of Havana live the most poor, the government gives rations them of very small food, we realized it because we met a boy and he invited us to dinner at his house, he lives in a small apartment with his parents and grandmother.
When we arrived her family was surprised because they didn’t expect us principally for the food, they told us that rations are limited and we had to pay for the food, because one of them couldn’t eat the following days.
The next day we went to “Varadero” is one of the best beach from Cuba is like Cancun, with white sand that makes the turquoise blue sea.
At night we went to celebrate the new year in the hotel bar, there were dancers, music, it was really fun.
Cuba is a place full of contrasts, good music , good snuff and people who have ambitions and enjoying life, despite his condition. I'd like to tell you more about this country but it would be another presentation.
