HUMAN
POPULATION

given area (usually given as persons per sq. km.)
How do you calculate it?
Total population of a place
P.D.=----------------------------------------------

18. STAGE 3:STAGE 3:
LATELATE
EXPANDINGEXPANDING
Birth rates fall rapidly
(20 per 1000), while
death rates continue
to fall (15 per 1000)
The fall in birth rate may
be due to:
- Family planning (contraceptives,
Sterilisation, abortion, etc)
- A lower infant mortality rate,
therefore less need to have
so many children.
- Increased industrialisation:
fewer labourers are needed.
- Increased desire for material
possessions (cars, holidays...)
- Emancipation of women
19. STAGE 4:STAGE 4: LOW FLUCTUATINGLOW FLUCTUATING
Both birth rates (12 per 1000) and
death rates (10 per 1000) remain low,
fluctuating slightly to give a steady
population
20. STAGE 5:STAGE 5: LOW FLUCTUATINGLOW FLUCTUATING
Slight fall in birth rate, death rate is stable
