4. Working with three senior graphic artists over a five-month
period, Kathryn designed and produced this 500+ page versioned
catalogue — corporate, field, and general with English and
French versions of each. The project was very intensive with
15 product sections, indices, informtional sections, incorporation
of 6,200 products including 1,200 new products and over
50+ advertisements all requiring high-level production and layout
skills, image editing, trapping and other production-related skills.

6. Kathryn completed the layout and production of four
consumer-targeted marketing magazines for the GM brands
(along with direct marketing inserts for each piece). This
project was especially tricky in that the timelines were super
tight (six weeks), the booklets were created in English and
French and she had to take direction from over 15 different
stakeholders (art directors, French translators, client and project
managers) to ensure final design approvals were met properly.

worked directly with the Toronto Marketing team of MNP to
design and produce a wide-range of publications from brochures,
advertisements, postcards, infographics, invitations and other
corporate communications for this Calgary-based accounting firm
with offices now located in downtown Toronto.

Take, for instance, his battle with multiple
sclerosis. Just months after his diagnosis, he
joined the Stoney Creek WALK not only to
raise money but also to fight a good fight
and draw inspiration from others. Little
did Dave know that the WALK would do
much more for his own spirit than he could
have imagined.
In 1991, Dave’s wife passed away, leaving him to raise two of
his children. He embraced this challenge and ensured he spent
as much time as possible with his kids by coaching their various
sports teams and taking them fishing, his favourite pastime.
At the same time, Dave started facing health issues. It started
with a stroke. As he was being treated for it, he suffered a second
one — at least that’s what doctors thought. It wasn’t until he

small business
for the
owner
Investing in you and your business
As a small business owner, you have complex financial
planning needs. You need to plan for investments in the
name of your business, as well as for your personal
portfolio and retirement goals.
Your CIBC business adviser, working with other investment
professionals, has the experience and expertise to help you
develop a plan that meets the financial goals for you and
your business. Your CIBC business adviser can also help you
choose the right combination of investment solutions that
will allow you to invest with confidence.
Key considerations
When deciding where and how best to invest, you will
need to consider many things, such as:
Tax planning
➤ A personal contribution to a registered investment
gives you tax-deferred investment growth and, in
some cases, an immediate tax deduction.
➤ A business investment may result in benefits such as
preferential tax treatment for dividend income and
capital gains.
Risk tolerance and investment time horizon
➤ Short-term investments offer easy access to
your money.
➤ Longer-term growth investments may be more volatile,
but provide the opportunity for higher longer-term gains.
Retirement planning
➤ Because your contribution limit for registered
investments is tied to your income, you will want to
consider non-registered investments as part of your
plan to achieve your retirement goals.
➤ All potential sources of retirement income should be
considered, such as government pensions, nonregistered investments, equity in your home and other
real estate, not just the equity in your business and
your registered investments.
