 Prehistory: In 2010, tobacco was found that dates to the Pleistocene Era 2.5 million
years ago. Paleontologists from the Meyer-Honninger Paleontology Museum
discovered the small block of fossilized tobacco in the Maranon river basin in
northeastern Peru.
 1493: Ramon Pane, a monk who accompanied Columbus on his second voyage,
gave lengthy descriptions about the custom of taking snuff. He also described how
the Indians inhaled smoke through a Y-shaped tube. Pane is usually credited with
being the first man to introduce tobacco to Europe.
 1620: ENGLAND: King James proclaims rules of tobacco growing and import. The
rules: --ban tobacco growing in Britain; --limit tobacco sales to 100 weight of
tobacco per man; --restrict imports to Virginia colony, and --establish stamps or
seals.
 1789-1799: FRENCH REVOLUTION French masses begin to take to the cigarito, as
the form of tobacco use least like the aristocratic snuff.
 1949: CONSUMPTION: 44-47% of all adult Americans smoke; over 50% of men,
and about 33% of women.

 Physical: A person will look older than they
actually are with many health problems
internally.
 Mental/emotional: A person will be depressed
and be constantly addicted to the need for their
next smoke.
 Social: A person will withdraw from many
relationships.
 Legal consequences: Anyone under the age of
18 is not allowed to smoke or else they get a
citation.
 Nervous System: Smoking has been observed to effect the
sensory functions to an extremely depleting degree. This makes
the smoker appear nervous and irritable.
 Cardiovascular System: Tobacco gives many people
heart problems like heart disease, stroke, and heart murmurs that
can eventually lead to a person’s demise.
 Digestive System: Due to the chemicals that are in tobacco
cigarettes, the lining of the stomach deteriorates which leads to
chime climbing back up the esophagus causing heart burn, and
also in some cases, throat and stomach cancer.
 Respiratory System: There is a chemical called tar in
cigarettes, and overtime the tar builds up in the lungs. This build
up hardens the lungs and makes the surface area of the lungs
decrease making breathing a hard process.
 Even though tobacco has many toxic chemicals,
some actually have some positive effects.
 Nicotine is a very addictive chemical that makes
smoking so hard to quit, but it actually has some
positives as it helps with therapeutic treatments.
 Nicotine also has been helping to normalize some of the
psychophysiological deficiencies with some patients
with schizophrenia.
 People can smoke tobacco or use smokeless
tobacco with also drinking alcohol without it
doing any other harmful effects besides the
ones they do individually.
 Family can be effected by smokers with second
and thirdhand smoke.
 Society can also be effected by smokers with
second and thirdhand smoke.
