This document discusses the design process for a CD cover and inserts. Several logo and image designs were rejected before finalizing the cover, which features the artist framed by Tower Bridge in grayscale with color only on the artist. The back cover similarly features the artist in color on a black and white background. The inserts include lyrics and dedications pages that continue featuring the artist alone in various poses to maintain consistency and sex appeal across the release.
3. Rejected Part 2 After feedback was given, we decided to ditch these inlays as the text detracted from the images. The Front cover and Back cover already exhibited London scenes, it was time for something different inside.
4. Main CD Cover This is our final CD Cover design. As you can see we’ve finally decided on a logo design. We’ve used Grey scale for the background and to make sure our main actor didn’t turn black and white also, we used the Magnetic Lasso around him so that he stood out. The effect of this is to make him look introspective, reflective and independent. These are traits unique to the R&B genre meaning we realise we have subverted conventions. Blending Options was added around Jamal to make him glow and stand out and give him a sort of angelic look to coincide with his stance. It also reinforced our idea of making him stand out, making him seem like he’s looking on towards big things (emphasised with Tower Bridge in the background).
5. Final CD Back Cover Again we have shown our main performer to stand out by having him illustrated in colour while the rest of the image is in black and white. This makes him stand out, makes him seem unique and almost spiritual. The reason we have his back towards the camera is because we wanted him to seem almost anonymous or unrecognisable. The effect of this is because he seems more mysterious this way and steering away from direct address here as to keep to our artist style. As you can see out Record Company logo is featured as well making this CD Back cover look all the more convincing.
6. Lyrical Inlay Our first inlay for the CD showing our Lyrics page for the song “Right on Time”. This inlay remained blank white with only a picture Jamal. It’s simplistic and sophisticated. This also makes for the change of pace after looking at the front and back cover. The direct address draws the reader in. We still keep to our artistic style here. We believe the white makes him look almost angelic while having varied shots of his hair makes him look more natural and relatable.
7. Dedications Inlay The final piece to our CD Ancillary – The Dedications Inlay. We had to think how we were going end the CD Inlays. We had to keep the consistency so we chose one last image of Jamal. It was important to keep the consistency as having multiple images of Jamal adheres to his sex appeal which many R&B stars carry on their name nowadays (Usher, Ne-Yo). The choice to use this one is the fact that he is carrying chains, but no ordinary chains because we are subverting from your traditional bling R&B artist. These chains are religious and patriotic which are perfect for a dedications page emphasising visually who he is thanking for his success as a star.
