Music Video Preferences Survey Results and Insights
1. It is shown here that I have given my questionnaires to more girls than boys. However the percentages are fairly close so I can start thinking about what I want in my music video. I want to be able to cater to the preferences of both men and women not just women in particular.
2. This is a good question to ask as I can get a range of different opinions from different age groups. I asked 40 different people all together. I asked a lot of people from the 17-20 age range as this is my age range so they are bound to have similar tastes to me. But it was vital to ask different age groups as it’s only obvious that different age groups will have different preferences. If I was to hone all of the age group ideas and put them all into one music video I could attract a huge audience.
3. I live in Wembley and Wembley is hugely diverse and multi-cultural. I have decided to include this question to establish a theory: ‘Do different racial groups prefer different types of music?’. I’m seeking to reinforce a certain stereotype – perhaps Caucasians are more likely to prefer Alternative Rock where as Africans or Afro-Caribbeans are more likely to enjoy R&B and Hip-Hop. This is key as I would have a deeper insight into what people enjoy so I can act on the results in way benefitting of my music video.
4. It seems the main place to see music videos is the internet. Social Networking sites like YouTube and Facebook are perfect places for a music video to broadcast as people can share the video with their friends and therefore spreads the word of mouth getting more and more people interested in the song.
5. It seems there’s a consensual agreement among all the interviewees. They all seem to want a little of everything in their music video. A mixture of everything is good as I can target and meet the needs of all of the individual audiences and make a music video catering to all of them allowing me to scoop in one big giant audience.
6. Kiss and Channel AKA (not U) are really popular music channels and are host to R&B and Grime music videos. Many people prefer R&B as it is a mainstream genre and is heard pretty much everywhere and has come to be more popular than Alternative.
7. Again, this question links to the genre question very well as it shows a direct correlation between R&B/Hip-Hop preference and Music channel preference. I’ve asked a variety of people but it seems Hip-Hop is the most popular. I want to be able to watch several music videos of different genres to gain a feel of different styles which I may use in my own music video once decided.
