2. Brothers in Islam Eclipses of the sun and moon are signs of Allah’s power, the Most Great and Merciful towards all human being in this world. Last two weeks we were surprised by eclipse of the moon and today, Muslims are able to contemplate the solar eclipse. Reflecting both of these cosmic phenomenas will increase our faith towards Allah. 3. Eventough some people assume these cosmic phenomenas frequently occur because of world nature, Islam on the other hand teaches us that these phenomenas is the signs of Allah’s power. Allah show His power on the sky, earth and the inbetween. Occurence of cosmic phenomena is totally by Allah permission; for example the rotation of sun around galatic centre shows that it is the obedient creature. 4. {وَالشَّمْسُ تَجْرِي لِمُسْتَقَرٍّ لَّهَا ذَلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ الْعَزِيزِ الْعَلِيمِ} Meaning: 36:38 And [they have a sign in] the sun: it runs in an orbit of its own [and] that is laid down by the will of the Almighty, the All-Knowing PUSAT ISLAM UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA ISLAMIC CENTRE UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA
5. Upon reflecting about these two phenomenas, Islam ask us to perform Solat Kusuf (صلاة الكسوف) which can strengthen the relationship between Allah and His servants. The occurence of solar eclipse is to remember Allah is the Most Great. It is also a Supererogatory Solat (سنة مؤكد) because during the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad, He led Muslims to perfom Solat Kusuf (صلاة الكسوف)and at the end of solat, He started delivering sermon. 6. {إن الشمس والقمر آتيان من آيات الله لا يخسفان لموت أحد ولا لحياته فإذا رأيتم ذلك فادعوا الله وكبروا وصلوا وتصدقوا يا أمة محمد والله ما من أحد أغير من الله أن يزنى عبده أو تزنى أمته يا أمة محمد والله لو تعلمون ما أعلم لضحكتم قليلا ولبكيتم كثيرا اللهم هل بلغت}. “These signs sent by Allah do not occur because of the life or death of somebody, but Allah frightens His worshippers with them. So when you see anything there of, rush to invoke Allah, pray to Him and ask for His forgiveness...” PUSAT ISLAM UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA ISLAMIC CENTRE UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA
7. From the verse above, Allah ask us to Increase our faith Reflect His creation in this world Beware from committing adultery Minimize all sort of enjoyment and always repent PUSAT ISLAM UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA ISLAMIC CENTRE UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA
8. Brothers in Islam... Sun is one of Allah’s creature. Eventough it follows Allah’s command and never refuse to obey, sometimes it face small challenge. This circumstances is simmilar to man mainly those who always disobey Allah’s commandas stipulated in this verse: {وَمَا يَسْتَوِي الْأَعْمَى وَالْبَصِيرُ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَلَا الْمُسِيءُ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَتَذَكَّرُونَ} Meaning: 40:58 But [then,] the blind and the seeing are not equal; and neither [can] they who have attained to faith and do good works and the doers of evil [be deemed equal]. 9. The above verse clarifies that: Man will face tribulation on two conditions: If he refuses to admit the Greatness of Allah and He disobey Allah’s commands PUSAT ISLAM UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA ISLAMIC CENTRE UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA
10. Significant of solar eclipse: Increase our faiths that all creatures are seen by Allah Each of us will face challenges Solar eclipse is a reflection of the Day of Judgement The punishment is not only to the wrong doer but also to the compliant servants Make prayer whenever we see His power PUSAT ISLAM UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA ISLAMIC CENTRE UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA

Therefore, let us practise Sunnah of Prophet and ponder this verse وَمَا مَنَعَنَا أَن نُّرْسِلَ بِالآيَاتِ إِلاَّ أَن كَذَّبَ بِهَا الأَوَّلُونَ وَآتَيْنَا ثَمُودَ النَّاقَةَ مُبْصِرَةً فَظَلَمُواْ بِهَا وَمَا نُرْسِلُ بِالآيَاتِ إِلاَّ تَخْوِيفًا Meaning: 17:59 And nothing has prevented Us from sending [this message, like the earlier ones,] with miraculous signs [in its wake], save [Our knowledge] that the people of olden times [only too often] gave the lie to them: thus, We provided for [the tribe of] Thamud the she-camel as a light-giving portent, and they sinned against it.
