1. Instructions
There are six separate spreadsheets in this Job Search Excel Workbook. Instructions for using each one are provided below. If you click into a cell
and can't edit it, it's because the cell contaisn a formula that cannot be changed by the user.
Financial Planning:
This sheet will help you determine whether you have a surplus or shortfall for your projected period of unemployment and if you have a shortfall,
it provides suggestions at the bottom to help you resolve them. First enter your desired salary in cell B3. Then enter your weekly unemployment
amount in cell B8 and the number of weeks of unemployment you have left in cell B10. Next, enter your monthly expenses in cells B13 to B35.
If you have expenses that don't fit it the predefined categories provided, lump them together in the OTHER category. Finally, do the same thing for
the funds you have available in cells 41 to B58. At this point, you're Estimate Surplus (or Shortfall - in RED and inside parentheses) will be calculated.
At the beginning, the cells that I mentioned above have sample data in them. Delete this information before you start.
Weekly Schedule:
This spreadsheet lets you create a weekly job search schedule (Monday - Friday only). There is a sample schedule for Monday to give you an idea of
of what a typical schedule for a day looks like. Your goal is to have an 8 hour job search day with at least 6 hours reserved for your job search and
2 hours for things like eating, exercise, chores, doing things with the children, etc. Before you start filling out your own schedule, delete the sample
data first.
Contacts:
This spreadsheet also you to keep a record of all your job search contacts. The Contact Type field is a drop down list field. When you click in the field,
you'll see a down arrow button appear to the right of the field. Click on it to access the drom down list of values. You can pick a value from the list or
type in a completely different value. Finally, there is sample data in this spreadsheet so remember to delete it before you begin to enter your own data.
Job Search Log:
This spreadsheet also you to log all your job search activities with the contacts in the Job Search Log. Whenever you enter a contact record in the
Contactsd spreadsheet, the key contact information is automatically copied into a new record in the Job Search Log. That way, you don't have to reenter
it. For each contact, you can enter up to 4 actions. The action information includes the Action Date, Notes, Next Step, and Call Back Date. The Next
Step field is a drop down list field. When you click in the field, you'll see a down arrow button appear to the right of the field. Click on it to access the
drop down list of values. You can pick a value from the list or type in a completely different value. With the Call Back Date field, this field is set up to
automatically change color to maroon (dark maroon text and a very light maroon background). This happens whenever you open the spreadsheet and
Call Back Date is due. This visually alerts you that the contact in that row needs to be called today. Finallly, there is sample data in this spreadsheet
so remember to remove it before you start to enter your own data.
Progress Tracking:
This spreadsheet allow you to track your job search progress for 15 regular job search task for each week for up to 12 weeks. For any given week, you
enter your Goal for each task (in hours) at the beginning of the week. Then at the end of the week, you enter the Actual hours you actually put into each
task. The spreadsheet will then compute your percent of goal for each task, the weekly percent of goal, and the to date percent goal across all the
