2. Technology in 2014
Our society is very dependent on technology in
today’s world. Smart phones, social networks, and
computers have completely taken over our lives.
This is media system dependency theory at it’s finest.
The more people depend on media to meet their
needs, the more important the media will be in a
person’s life, and will then the more effects the
media will have on that person.
3. Technology in 2014
cont.
Media system
dependency theory
has become a
problem, I believe,
in today’s world
and I believe it is
going to be an even
bigger problem in
2024.
5. Going into 2022
Because people are so
dependent on social media
and their smartphones, I
believe smartphones will
never die out. They are
going to keep evolving and
changing to keep up with
the times.
The need for
communication is always
prevalent and will be so
even more in 2022.

7. Going into 2022
In 2022, I think a lot of aspects of communication and
technology are going to change.
I think the Uses and Gratification Theory perfectly
describes how specific innovations will change and take
off in 2022.
Uses and Gratification Theory states that people seek
certain forms of media to satisfy a specific need or want.
This is perfect for manufacturers in the future because
they can keep heading in the direction of this theory,
however, this will result in the change I believe will come.
8. The Principle of Relative
Constancy
The Principle of Relative Constancy is a model for
analyzing how much money is spent on media by
both consumers and advertisers. I think this theory is
going to come into play with the new innovations in
2022.
I think one huge innovation that will never go away is
cable TV. I think cable TV will be around until 2024
but they are going to have to use this theory to
conform.
9. Television
In the U.S. there are 115,000,000 households with at least
one TV. Out of that number only about 55% of them
subscribe to cable television.
In today’s world there are so many different ways to get
the shows you want to watch, as soon as you want to
watch them. NetFlix, Hulu, or Satellite TV. All of these
options you do not have to watch commercials or flip
through channels.
Hulu and NetFlix are cable’s main competitors. These are
websites that allow you to access thousands of current
movies and television shows.
10. Television cont.
The graph to the left shows
how NetFlix and Hulu users
are watching their shows.
With this graph being
shown, we see a lot of
people watching their shows
online.
Cable TV is going to have to
come up with new options
and media choices to stay
around and compete.
With that being said, I do not
believe there will ever not be
a need or desire for TV.
