Globalization of American Education Lauren Kayla Windle CI 5383.01
The world has become a global market a global competition in economy, sports, education and in all aspects. Which makes us wonder how does the US compete in global education? In the 1950’s we were #1 now where do we rank? Introduction
Does the United States rank in comparison to developed nations require a reform in our education?
Significance? Why should we care about our ranking in the world? Because we are now in a global market and if we want to be a competitor we need to be prepared. We need to make a reform so that we can compete with the rest of the world on an even playing field.
Research Purpose The goal of this research is to decide if the United States needs to reform it’s education system. We need to discover what adjustments does the United States need to make in order for it to be a contender and move up in rank. Campus.kellerisd.net
To Whom it May Concern: This research will benefit the students in America. We need to know what reformation our schools will conduct at a district and state level. If we conduct the research then we can learn how the other nations have passed us in reading, math and science and what modifications we need to make.
The US is no longer number 1..the rest of the world has passed us in the past 50 years. CBS News did a segment on how ‘other nations outclass the United States’.
Developed Nations Ranking
Where the US is today The US has fallen behind in academics leaving the top contenders South Korea, Finland, Singapore and Hong Kong. The US is only number 1 in spending in education, but spending is not helping. The 2009 OECD report has revealed that the US needs to make some reformation.
If at first you don’t succeed… The source of the US problem may be that we have a shorter school year. On average teachers spend six weeks reviewing what students already have learned. The United States needs to look into options of perhaps expanding the school year and on what has worked in the past. Modeling our system after Korea’s and Finland’s.
Conclusion The research can be done through finding online sources. Using reports and government documents as well. The research can help discover what reforms need to be done to increase the US in rank. Researching state requirements and comparing them to other countries can help define reforms as well.
