This document discusses personal learning environments (PLEs). PLEs help learners take control of and manage their own learning through technologies like blogs, wikis, and social networks. PLEs allow learners to set goals, manage content and learning processes, and communicate with others. However, PLEs also face challenges including technical issues, questions around content ownership and privacy, and developing new instructional designs and assessments. Overall, PLEs require learners to use various tools to support lifelong self-directed learning.
