1. Welcome!
I’m glad you got here! We’ll start shortly. In the meantime,
check your audio setup to be able to talk and listen.
From the Elluminate toolbar, upper left, select Tools ->
Audio -> Audio Setup Wizard.
If the Audio Setup Wizard fails, check that your computer
recognizes your audio device:
In Elluminate: Tools -> Audio -> Select Input Device
PC Users (Windows XP): check Sounds and Audio Devices in the
computer’s Control Panel.
Mac users: -> System Preferences -> Sound
If your USB-connected device isn’t working, did you
connect it before you launched Elluminate? If not, exit
Elluminate now, connect your device, re-enter Elluminate,
and run the Audio Setup Wizard.
For technical problems, help is available through the Tech
Support tab on the course toolbar.
2. Listening and Talking
Headphones or ear buds are highly
recommended over external speakers. A
microphone in, or plugged into your computer will
be OK, but optimal equipment is a combined
headphone and microphone headset (illustrated
here). Headphones provide clear sound, and the
headset microphone reduces background noise
and echo.
To talk, “grab” the microphone by clicking on the
microphone icon, bottom left of screen. The session
moderator controls the number simultaneous speakers
Off: permitted in the session, so you may need to raise your
hand by clicking on the icon. When you are done
speaking, hand off the microphone by clicking again on
On:
the microphone icon. When grey, your microphone is off;
when lit up, your mic is on.
