After finishing my work in Warsaw, I went by
car to the second work destination at Krakow.
On the way I stopped at Majdanek
extermination camp and at Zamosc, where my
family lived before WWII.
Krakow is a beautiful, very old city and served
in the past as the capital of Poland. Today,
there are 750,000 people living there.
Obviously, I went to Casimir, that was the
Jewish quarter of the city, to see what was left
of Krakow’s Jewry. Before the war there were
60,000 Jews in the city and now there are
several hundreds only.
Most were murdered in the Holocaust.
The Jewish quarter nowadays is empty and
neglected and the Polish government is
planning to nationalize it as it’s inhabitants
never returned to claim their homes for some
reason...
Part of the quarter was renovated for tourists.
Today, there is a small Jewish community there
and of hundreds of synagogues only few were
left, serving this tiny community.
This presentation shows Krakow’s cold nights
of November.
