Bevagna and Montefalco
Cod C1 ½ day around 2 h
Visit of two charming little towns near Assisi: Bevagna and Montefalco,
immersed in the rolling vinecovered hills offer an intact medieval aspect.
Precious art (frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli) and marvelous Ummbrian
romanesque architecture. ( entrance fee 5 € )
BEVAGNA
Bevagna, the ancient “Mevania”, developed during the roman period thanks
to the via Flaminia. This little fascinating gem is surrounded by the Clitunnoriver,
Sagrantino vines and olive groves. An easy walk in the intact medieval centre
leads you to the splendid Piazza Silvestri, one of the finest surviving Medieval
squares in Umbria, with 12th century Romanesque churches.
During the month of June, Bevagna steps back into the Middel-Ages with
the “Market of the Gaite” (word of Longobard origin meaning quarter),
an evocation of everyday medieval life and crafts involving the whole
population. Some of the medieval workshops are open all year round.
